Only 25mm here so far this month and 402mm for the year, Havent had a 25mm+ fall of rain since may.

Up to 19 degrees here this afternoon with a moderate Northwest wind.

Yes its been very dry. Of that 420mm to date this year 45mm of it is from thawed out snow.

I have no idea how much we got from that snow as it all blew out of the rain gauge.

Got to 20 deg here today with a NW that got stronger as the day went on.

I see we're currently experiencing our 2nd highest king-tides for the year.

For Auckland's west coast, max tide-heights peaked at roughly around midnight last night. And for Auckland's Waitemata Habour and the Hauraki Gulf, max heights will peak at roughly around 10am tomorrow. Fortunately MSLP won't be low enough to be too much of a concern.

yes, looks like warnings were prepared in advance but given the higher than mean air pressure, its not really going to be much of a concern I would think
tide was a long way out last night on the west coast, I was able to drive the car over the sand a long way out, far enough to get radio reception again (normaly the coast hills block that!)

went down to the coast to check on the big spring tide
was impressed (was a 4.5m)
the 2m long period swell (i.e lots of wave trains) made it impressive

its sending "shock waves" ahead of it, affecting cloud sheets in the eastern tasman!

There is a very powerful upper level jet over Australia. The jet is coming our way, stand by for possibly some interesting weather from Sunday. (Octobers weather thread now).

The westerly pattern has gone for now. Low dewpoints over NZ this week, felt cool, the air starting to moisten now with the E/NE flow.

Very dry overall; the only exceptions being coastal Southland, Central Otago and Auckland.

Also a very sunny month with no part of NZ experiencing below normal sunshine. Quite a few records broken in the North Island, and the N and E of the South Island, including some of the more long-term records such as Dargaville, Tauranga, Gisborne and Waipawa.

NUmbers for Blenheim and Napier are not available yet - they would also be close to Nelson's 250 hours, which itself is close to the NZ record (252 at Nelson in 1958). More notable than that was the combined August and September sunshine of 497 hours at Nelson - about 77% of the recordable amount.

^ Not too sure about Napier, but Blenheim recorded 248.6 hrs, which I think beats the previous Sep record of 244.3 hrs set in 1972.

That would be correct re Blenheim. The Napier total should be in the 240s, as for Waipawa and Gisborne. Tekapo's 245 (from CliFlo) is also noteworthy as its 3rd highest (247 in 1954, 248 in 1958).
