A big week for NewZealand with the start of the Rugby World Cup.

Looks like a trough will approach the country later in the week. Rain looks likely on Sunday possibly affecting games at Auckland ,NewPlymouth and Wellington. Should be dry friday/Sat at this stage , perhaps an isolated shower in an increasing moist NE flow.

NZ weather is looking unsettled for the first week of Rugby World Cup from Sunday, the Wednesday games may see some dry weather wilh a Ridge moving through .

I watched the fireworks display on TV and looked like a lot of smoke after a while up above - very calm conditions...

Nice weather for the Fireworks. Watched it from Devonport. Smoke hung around for a long time creating a foggy feeling but great for the light display. Some people were moaning about the 'cold' weather...yes it was colder but not cold.

A brilliant opening to Rugby World Cup. The great weather probably helped encourage a lot of people out, the crowds being too big in places. Perhaps we will need rain at finals time to dampen crowds down

I went down to the waterfront late afternoon and the place was jam packed. I didn't stay long enough for fireworks though.
Hopefully we can get some natural fireworks this week with a strong polar system crossing NZ.

was insane afternoon and night in auckland. uhhhh feeling it today. glad i didnt bother using trains or buses. amazing though! perfect weather

It must of really annoyed the drivers with people pulling the emergency stop for no apparent reason when they are trying to run a service.

The main showcase was friday night but I dont think people travelled all this way for the weather. Have you been to any of the northern hemisphere rugby countries in March( equivilant to Sep here)

Unfortunately not,the last time I been to a different country in winter/spring is Australia in the 90s to Melbourne,never have travelled to Europe during any season,maybe one day.....

The unstable west/southwest flow continues into the weekend and brings the risk of showers to games, Sunday looks the better day. I think next week will be a better weather week.

Hopefully the fiasco continues in the wet and unlike friday we'll see them ducking for cover amongst the puddles with their umbrellas blowing inside out

Unfortunately the disturbed pattern continues into next week, the upper atmosphere continues cold, will help generate spells of showers for NZ more likely in western areas, fine spells in the mix as well.

the odd NW flow will bring some warmer temperatures, airmass originating from the great land of OZ...

The niwa seasonal outlook is going for weaker westerlies this spring generally, an active westerly phase currently.

Hopefully tonights All Black game can miss those heavy showers showing up over the Tasman

typicaly then the weather pattern at press release time from NIWA is opposite to the long term forecasted trend. .....funny how that works every time!
