Any estimation they stick up on there is usually well below the actual intensity of precip falling.
The typical Thunderstorm will have precip intensities that quite often breach 100mm/hr in the core of the storm.
Unless they are talking about potential accumulation intensities then that would make sense.

Nice sunny day in Auckland 18C.
GFS is showing about 400j/kg CAPE and some convergence over inland Waikato this afternoon so maybe a late afternoon thundery shower there but nothing too significant in my opinion.
