Re: General October Weather
May be unstable'ish this coming Friday and Saturday in the afternoons. Can see hints of possible unstableness late on Thu to but yeah Fri and Sat, where a light to moderate southwesterly should converge with a northeasterly somewhere. Fingers crossed.
Cheers

Re: General October Weather
21 degrees here this afternoon with a light easterly feels quite warm with the dewpoint up around 13-14.
Havent had any of the strong winds here that Coastal Canterbury has had.

Re: General October Weather
Yes Aaron here's hoping hey.
NW wind blew rather strong for a time here this afternoon but still a nice warm day with 23 deg.
snowstormwatcher - i went down to Amberley today and there was next to no wind down there and they are on the coast.Tony did the town have much wind over the day or so ???,areas around Banks Peninsular do tend to get hit hard by NE winds during certain weather conditions like that of the last few days, even south CHCH is more windier than north CHCH.

Re: General October Weather
I think you will find Richard that with the angle of the wind yesterday very N-NE that Amberley was sheltered somewhat from it with the hills to the north including the Kate Valley area.
I noticed yesterday some on here were commenting about the strong winds through out the day in Christchurch, and although i wasnt home until after 5pm they certainly were not anywhere near 60kmh like was being recorded at the airport if anything closer to 30kmh and fresh.
It wasnt until about 7pm the winds really picked up as the rain drew closer and the isobars tightened up.

Re: General October Weather
16.6 degrees currently locally. Wish this dam high cloud would bugger off to give us sunshine and a early 20's temperature.
Update: Couple of hours later and the cloud is thinning out somewhat, sun through at times, still a lot of high cloud about but up to 21.6 degrees locally now with a NNE gusting to 15km.h at times.

Re: General October Weather
Yup she got very nice. Just before 2pm a NE breeze developed pushing the mercury down to 20 here, 21 currently at the airport. Averging 25km.h gusting to 37km.h currently at airport so that is why we had 4-5 degrees knocked off but still very plesant. Would be watering the vege garden tonight but Im an odd numbered letterbox so will have to wait till tomorrow.

Re: General October Weather
Another warm day today well before the NE kicked in anyway, it was 23C up at work around midday.
Also nice to see some cloud build ups along the foothills this afternoon, a sight not seen for awhile anyway.
Theres actually some good thunder set up chances coming up within the next week for Otago and Canterbury, starting tomorrow for Canterbury although i think Saturday will be more favourable for the plains without any cloud cover.
Into next week a few chances pop up also, so John you might need to continue cutting that hedge for TS corner .

I'm off to Timaru tomorrow on the Ballantynes Bus, so I hope that any activity in north Canterbury does not eventuate but if anything may happen down Timaru way which I think would be very much unlikely, would be quite nice.
Got an order in for 2 dozen Mays Pies to bring back so I'm looking forward to that there's no pie smilies

Re: General October Weather
Lovely day here today with early morning low cloud burning off to a fine blue dome skies day. Southerly breeze was with us all day, enough to keep it very plesant still though. 18 degrees was the high, although felt like early 20's nice and warm. Slight NE here now and 14 degrees currently. Not liking this low cloud rolling in from the sea for our chances of early morning heating here in the morning as no doubt we will wait to morning low cloud. Some weak CU currently away to the alps in the haze out there.

Re: General October Weather
Had a decent thunderstorm by Invercargill's standards around 5.30pm, coming home from work at 4.30, the black clouds rolled south pretty quickly, delivered frequent thunder and lightning, brief heavy rain to Invercargill , had to wait in my car for 10 mins before going into the gym.

Re: General October Weather
Nice looking cloud driving back from Hornby to Rolleston to West Melton this evening about 8pm, to the western foothills ,before the low cloud rolled in.
Looked good with the sun shining behind it.

Sorry about that Richard.
Now. I'm hoping you do get a good thunderstorm tomorrow. Judging by today's happening along the eastern foothills, things should get interresting tomorrow, north of the TC.

Re: General October Weather
No worries John, its looking interesting already looking at the radar, developing showers in South Canterbury even though are moving in a SW direction is still a good sign and then there's some other build ups just north of Kaikoura that i can see from here, this is even before the sun is up good sign

Hopefully she clears in the next hour or so to allow for some heating.
Update; In regards to cloud clearing, not looking likely, mist/light drizzle now falling.

Re: General October Weather
Yes the radar would support that too. Perhaps a wet week on the cards next week. At least there is one good thing from this rain not eventuating today, cricket will still be on tomorrow
