Re: General October Weather
Here, we're up to the October average rainfall or past it now, and sunshine is abnormally low (lowest for first 15 days in records back to 1954). Quite a contrast to September.

Re: General October Weather
Somehow I doubt we will get that high as there is pro-dominant SW flow, the Westerly change later on is a little to late for the temp to rise that high. I could understand 23°C in a NW currently but not in a SW just yet.....

Re: General October Weather
Looks like the warm air over the Tasman doesn't get onto the North Island until overnight/tomorrow. Should see some warm temperatures Friday over inland and eastern North Island and BOP. 25C not out of the question in some sheltered spots.

Re: General October Weather
Also even for CHCH they have 23 deg today, they've got to be dreaming if they think it will even come close to that temp

Re: General October Weather
It comes down to the timing of a westerly change reaching the coast. Looks NE there for much of the day but a warmer westerly kicks in late afternoon by the looks. But the change does look too late in the day for 23C.Also even for CHCH they have 23 deg today, they've got to be dreaming if they think it will even come close to that temp

Re: General October Weather
Yes i agree though i don't believe the westerly will be strong enough to even reach the coast, plus the amount of high cloud coming onto the South Island at the moment is going to keep the lid on the temps also.
Mind you it looks more like a WSW that a straight westerly flow

Re: General October Weather
Fine here but a fresh to strong SW breeze is keeping our temperature to around 17C.
Looks like windy conditions tomorrow for the Auckland to Russell yacht race ( Coastal Classic), SW gusting 35 knots.

Re: General October Weather
Reached 19 here at 3.00 with a light NE,no sign of that westerly wind change which is predicted for at least a couple of hours going by the amount of thin haze around the mountains.
Given this is one of the first areas in Canterbury to receive the arrival of the W - NW winds, ya know that its will generally be many more hours later before it arrives in CHCH.

Yes, it looks as if most of those east coast highs will have occurred after the TV-temp's 4pm cut-off time and the following morning newspaper's 6pm cut-off time, i.e. Timaru Aero 21.5C, Dunedin City 21.2C, Oamaru 20.7C, Ashburton Aero 19.8C and Chch Aero 15.1C.spwill wrote:Timaru into the warmer air on 21C currently , Chch on 14C.
