No mils yet from this system here grounds stayed dry apart from brief spots of rain last night, however it is set to roll on through overnight and into tomorrow perhaps 30-40mm for some parts of Christchurch.

Steady rain here this morning with strong southerlies, a period of heavier rain in the night woke me up but looking at the radar we were spared for a couple of hours where very heavy falls were around us so could easily had got another 10mm or so from that. Total here so far is 12mm falling at 3mm/h.

Update: Heavier rain falling now at 10mm/h current rate.

Strong gusty wind and heavy rain all night. An interruption to the power at some unknown time, since restored. Puddles on shingle drive.
Currently 5.9 degrees, very noisy wind and rain.

Big flooding on Halswell Road down by the New World, going into peoples properties and right across the road. Wonder how much longer this can stick with us. GFS 2 hours ago put out another 45mm or so for this.

Yes it can stop now please. Hate to see how we'd cope with a 50mm event, fortunately we haven't had one of those in the past 13 months

Just looking through the records for this year, amazingly this is the wettest day of the year to date at Jeffs and already 32more mm than all of October last year, although still some 140mm behind for the YTD.

Update: Boy that wind is really blowing now, gusting to gale for sure with rain pounding against the window. Nice looking 10am radar also. Have puddles in the backyard now which doesnt often happen.

We may even get to that 50mm with this one. Although I think we will come up short of that. Then again, who knows...up to 37mm now and 33.5mm at Jeffs. The sky radar for 1030am shows 'very heavy' falls and is impressive alright! However, the pace of it moving through will limit extreme rainfall.

46mm here now and counting! Just been driving. Some serious flooding on the roads and the Heathcote has burst its bank! I took some photos that will post up soon. The avon is also very high!

GFS just through still plotting 53mm more here for us....don't think so!!! This will be gone within 2 hours tops.

Here is a picture of the Heathcote breaking its bank and starting to flow across the grass embankment. Not the best picture as very hard to take a good photo and not get drenched!

A member of this household is at present returning home from Nelson and sent the following texts:
[12:35pm] "Just stopped in Culverden to get lunch. Snowed almost the entire way through the Lewis Pass!...
It was settling at the edge of the road and there was slush on road at one point!"

Areas around the lower part of the river are lucky the tide is going out at the moment Leighton
