yes very warm alright, not used to these kinds of temps at this stage of the season, later on in summer ya think nothing of it.
Got to 32.8 on the mercury gauge but theTessa gauge said 35deg,should really put a hammer through it as its not a accurate weather station.

A 31.8 deg range today

Lucky for some. This spring has to be one of the most annoying ones I can remember in a long time. Seems to be constant Northeasterlies and a real lack of Norwesters for this time of year. Speaking to a few people today and they are over the wind here. Nice to here of 30 being cracked! I think tomorrow morning here will be a warm one, could hit high 20's before the change but will depend on if cloud cover is present. Still blowing moderate NE and up to 21.3 which is as warm as it has got so far here today.

Its warmed up a liittle now Razor somewhat but where have you been all morning and until around 2pm? Its been a cool easterly most of the day. Overall, this spring has been somewhat disappointing with September being the best of the three from memory. Ofcourse we get a handful of days that are good, we would normally have more NW days by now though. Currently only 19.8 at the airport. 23 at Jeffs.

 Is your place sheltered from that cool easterly? I must feel the cold more. Its hasnt been cold but its been coolish. You only have to see the effect of the NE here. Ashburton just downthe road has been at over 25 since before midday today while at the same time we were on 16. Anyways should be a nice mild night when the NW takes over.

I would actually rather preferr to get less NW days in November/December still the odd day or two for hot days, but far better for storm set ups when its onshore NE against colder S-SW flows coming up the island instead of battling a dry westerly airflow.
The NWer's can return in January-March although i wouldnt wish too many hot days on anyone despite the wet november so far.
Speaking of which for tomorrow i think the westerly could be a killer again for thunder, but it is marginal perhaps a clap or two of thunder south of christchurch in the showers.
I would love to be proven wrong and get a beaut southerly buster roll on through \:D/ .

Yes no mention of thunderstorms on metservice however Tony is mentioning the chance of some thunderstorm with the change.
As jase says the W/NW flow might kill anything off but hopefully we would be proven wrong!
Nice day out now with moderate NE wind but winds becoming lighter as the evening goes on making way for the NW tonight.
Should be a warm one tomorrow for sure. :)

Ashburton being 20 odd kms further inland than ChCh from the sea makes a difference on days like this....28 degrees or more this arvo with dewpoints over 16 made it feel like a tropical winters day in Cairns!
Great beer and barbee weather!...and still 23 at 8pm

Turned out to be a pretty good night for a BBQ here too (which we did have). Best part of the day with the NE dying out temperature climbing. Outside currently as of 10pm it is 23 degrees with a NW breeze

Yes Jase I don't think I'll bother going out tomorrow unless I saw it obviously on the Satellite's / radars etc. Looks like it would be dry before the change as you say. The upper air isn't really cold enough either. If we had quite high dewpoints at the surface then maybe, the air even just above the surface would be W or NW though, the mixed result being air that's too dry. But you never know, I'll just keep an eye out I spose.

Cheers
Aaron

According to MS's TV-temps, Hanmer Springs was up around 31C yesterday. They also have 29.3C for Culverden and 27.5C for both Ashburton Aero and Fairlie. Be interesting to see if any other inland S.I. towns officially cracked the 30C mark once figures come out later.

I cant see why the MS don't have Hanmer Springs on there website,i would imgain that the recording station there was one left over from the old forest service days maybe.

Hopefully an interesting day coming up when this southerly comes through later, currently 13.5deg and a light NW

Weather looks stable this week for NZ according to gfs. Hopefully plenty of sunshine.

There is an upper trough over the NI this week but no moisture.
