Re: General December Weather
looks like a fantastic week to come after tuesday.
I also like the trend in the patterns with lows beginning to form in the north tasman sea.
as for today the sun really needs to get its A into G. still very cloudy here.

Re: General December Weather
Just looking at the latest midday sounding from NZWP, its looks a little bit capped today. There will need to be a very warm afternoon to get cb's going, looking like temps above 25C for any convection to occur around here.
Re: General December Weather
We've broken the 25c mark here! But some very dark clouds in the surrounding area.....

Re: General December Weather
Heaps of Crisp Towing Cumulus going here, had a look at the latest models 18Z:
Looks very good for this arvo in the Waikato, very humid potent SFC conditions here with a DP at 19°C.
Upper air seems to be sufficient at around -18°C @ 500mb since this occuring with DTSH, i think Waikato could be in for a good chance of a storm later on.
Yea I had a look at sounding a Whenuapai and did look capped, but that doesnt mean it can't happen down here
Attached below some CAPE with LI values on the 18Z run of the GFS, with 500mb temps. times from 2PM-5PM.

Re: General December Weather
This feels like our warmest day so far (of spring & summer), max of 24 degrees and humid. Pity about the stable skies though!

Re: General December Weather
Almost made 25 degrees here, I like the look of that dry slot in the sounding from 850 up to 500, if anything breaks through that often seems to make for stronger lightning..

Re: General December Weather
man alive its warm! wouldnt call it hot but by far the warmest day since winter. mugginess making it feel warm.
Yea things look to be trying but still lacking a bit of surface heat here i think. Once it sits above 25 for an hour or two like it is now i think by 5 we should see some good development around here.

Re: General December Weather
unstable looking sky here at the moment...with towering alto cumulus
Westerly breeze hwere...if the NE sea breeze convergence can get going over the auckland isthmus things could get going?
the Hawkes bay has done well lately for thunderstorms!

Re: General December Weather
Patchy drizzle, nothing wetting the ground. Being sheltered from the majority due to the band coming from the SE - ie. BP protecting us. Cooler day today, reaching around 18 degrees.
