Re: Marlborough Canterbury heavy rain event 6/7 Dec
The latest GFS and 3 day map run shows heavy rain on us all night. Yet its stopped completely and has done so for last hour really. The new warning now is from Ashburton to Kaikoura.
Is the radar showing this rain band doing a turning around and about to hit back into the city?

I made a comment this morning on the General December Weather thread of a trough coming off the Ozzie coast at that time, now that area with in the jet stream looks so intriguing, differently a low developing in and around the south island somewhere at the moment.

26mm from this event so far. 26mm also for the month. A lot of the heavy stuff stayed out to sea south of BP.

A much needed drink for the gardens and what not for awhile anyway, 27mm in the gauge here but certainly a much cooler day today in comparison with the first 4 days of summer.
Back to blue dome skies in the coming days in time for the weekend, might see some of our first inland afternoon build ups and evening heat showers along the foothills come the weekend.
