Wind farm wake effects

Unread post by Willoughby »

Amazing photo...
Horns Rev 1 wake effects. Photographer Christian Steiness. The above photograph shows the turbulence field behind the Horns Rev 1 offshore wind turbines (Denmark). Unique meteorological conditions on 12 February 2008 at 1300 hours resulted in the wind turbines creating condensation (i.e. clouds) of the very humid air, thus making it possible to see the turbulence pattern behind the wind turbines.

Quite amazing to think the wind was blowing in such way the contrails are completely aligned with the lines of turbines just on that special day ... I wonder how the turbulent rather than laminar flow of air affects the efficiency of the turbines ?
The Earth has music for those who listen.
