we have done well here....over 2x as much as stations inland (we have had 37mm now)...we must have been getting a lee trough situation on the west coast here we can sometimes get in these setups (the wind here has been more ENE than NE, and is now tending more ESE even)
how much has stations in the waitakeres had?

this does not look good

The highest rainfall total was at the Kotinga rain gauge at Takaka Township, where by 3am 510mm had been recorded over 48 hours, with a record 423mm of that falling in a 24 hour period.

In the 35 years records have been kept, the previous highest 24-hour total at that location was 256mm, in August 1990

It may not bee heavy rain here but it's certainly going to be sticking around for a while. This front is slowing right down. Only raining at about 1.2mm an hour here. Basically drizzle

The quicker this front clears us the better. Yes, looks like it will pass through Auckland by the middle of the day.

Thunder chance is on Saturday. I think NZstorm prefers the dry weather as he works outdoors
I prefer the rain to come in the form of sunshine and showers.
December sunshine hrs must be well down for many areas given the cloudiness over the past week.

Yes, I don't like rain a week out from Xmas as it holds up my work program. I have to get a project completed.

Rickys weather station showing just 18mm.

looks like a low developed on the front...in the hauraki gulf
Ricky is now southerly wind...
the front looks like a quick clearence on sat map, but its a warm front..i.e leaning over
so will take a while longer to clear....we have low cloud on the SW change at home
looks like you are in a rain hole there Jamie!

48mm of light to moderate rain here since late yesterday arvo.

Quite a few surfers down at the northern beaches this evening. :D

P.S. Had a 5 hour power outage earlier today; seems to be par for the course with these events here.

Must have been a "rain hole" down the Auckland isthmus - high rainfall at Manukau Heads and Waiheke but lower in the middle (35mm at Grey Lynn and 29mm here).
