Latest 00Z NZWP soundings shows unstable air to about 3000m, which explains the passing showers.

Lake Karipiro is under a black and white core, with some strikes coming out of it

A few heavy showers around Ak, I see any storm activity over Waikato has been very isolated. I think this cloudy showery weather is killing our thunder chance.

dam i thought it would have hail. i chose not to follow it into hamilton as its too hard to chase in a city. it only just missed us here by about 1kmdan wrote:hail now!

Did a small local chase. Got some torrential rain. Couldn't drive in it. Torrents of water running down the hills. Got some good structure. I'll post the photos soon.

Sharply contrasting temps in upper/central NI this afternoon between warm northwesterly and cool southerly change, no doubt a big reason for the storms.
