Latest 00Z NZWP soundings shows unstable air to about 3000m, which explains the passing showers.

Lake Karipiro is under a black and white core, with some strikes coming out of it :)

have sudden heavy rain episodes here in the eastern BOP
due to cold air with the easterly change undercutting the upper level warmer northerly...

A few heavy showers around Ak, I see any storm activity over Waikato has been very isolated. I think this cloudy showery weather is killing our thunder chance.

Cracking thunder here. Good cell. Looks to be moving towards Hamilton.

webcam from home shows blue skies and nice summer temperatures,with WSW wind
here in eastern BOP its overcast, raining, cool, and easterlies...big contrast...

Yep can confirm very nice heavy shower and frequent thunder here.

have heard one rumble. Having showers every few minutes, some heavy.
Looks like Waikato is the place to be.

Rotorua 41mm in the last 2 hours. Hamilton 18mm last hour.

Did a small local chase. Got some torrential rain. Couldn't drive in it. Torrents of water running down the hills. Got some good structure. I'll post the photos soon.

Boy isnt it! 24mm and going up at 26mm/hr atm and quite consistently too.

Sharply contrasting temps in upper/central NI this afternoon between warm northwesterly and cool southerly change, no doubt a big reason for the storms.
