Re: General December Weather
Judging by the t/cu around here today, not surprised some ended up thundery inland.
TT chart for Thursday, area 50+ for inland North Island and upper South Island. Could be a good inland storm day, if the gfs is correct.

Thunder across NZ 20-22 December
I thought it would be good to make a new topic for this and if one of the MODS could drag over yesterdays thunder posts to here.
It looks like we have a couple of days of thunder in a row for large parts of NZ with this high pressure system.
MS has "no thunder expected" for Waikato yesterday. They did mention showers but they didnt expect them to turn thundery. In the end they were quite good storms.
Today in their outlook they have upped their game and put out a moderate risk for Waikato so game on again today.
Looking at the models tomorrow should be even better.

Re: Thunder across NZ 20-22 December
It was interesting to see those late storms over Waikato last evening. I will likely go for a drive south later in the day if some decent convergence starts to show up on radar.
There have been towering Cu showers visible to the SW of Auckland this morning , radar shows them off the coast at Raglan.
Current weather here is mostly fine, 20C, dp14C, light winds, a few cumulus clouds around.

Some heavy showers developed over South Auckland near the West Coat after 4pm, sea breeze convergence ( photo). I went for a drive along the Southern Motarway, showers look weaker now.

Seabreeze front just came over with the convergence line right over head
Id wait a bit longer spwill, it seems around 6-7 PM that these showers get some kick.
