Great photo Richard.
Waikato convergence line looks great on radar, all the way down to Taranaki.

Nice photo's guys! Could see the Cb's to the northwest from here in Christchurch although don't think the South Island ones did much apart from rain of course but have been busy today so haven't been able to monitor it. Look forward to more pics tomorrow should anything happen. Am liking that contrast Jamie in those Waikato photo's with the sunny foreground (that rainbow is nice to!), and the clear blue skies with a Cb in the middle spwill, quite photogenic.
Cheers

Fantastic pics there spwill love that middle one with wall of rain.
Hoping today's build ups are a lot close to the foot hills instead yesterdays one hiding away way back there in the mountains.

Interesting to see Hamilton Aero picking up 30.6mm yesterday evening, while Jamie only got 7.6mm and Tim 0.4mm. Also looks like a few of those reminant showers made their way across SW Akld last night (10mm at Akld Aero before midnight), while the rest of Akld seems to have remained dry.

Re: Thunder across NZ - Dec 20-22
The GFS is starting to pull back on moisture/precip now for the NI so less of the heavy showers today. 500mb temps start warming a bit too after today.
I notice 850mb temperatures remain quite low for NI over the festive period, just 6C or 7C. As a very rough rule of thumb, you add 15C to the 850mb temp to get an idea of possible max temps. Over the South Island 850mb temps are higher 10-12C.

Just goes to how how hit and miss they are. Tim is pretty close to the airport yet he got basically nothing.
Hopefully today is just as good. Thanks for the comments guys. Have been two very picturesque days but I have been too lazy to get my dslr out to get good shots

Re: Thunder across NZ - Dec 20-22
Yesterday the sea breeze front pushed a little too far to my west Hamilton Airport is 7 KS away to my SW just where the good showers were. Compare that to the 20th which developed storms quicker to my east and got more of a hit from them.

I have been keeping an eye on a heavy shower that developed south of here a couple of hours ago, it looked like it was heading this way but has just passed to the west of here, heading NNW into central Auckland.

Latest sounding indicates isolated cb possible with good heating.
Convergence line is further east today than yesterday.
Can see isolated showers to NW and E.

Re: Thunder across NZ - Dec 20-22
I wonder if those South Auckland cell(s) have broken the cap yet?
Anyone getting a good view to the south to see if there are any anvils yet?
