yea i see that.

would that indicate it is all building. ie the heavy rain is just forming and yet to really see it on the sat images and rain radar?

1989 was a wet holiday period too,i am in wanganui today, rained the entire trip quite unusal though has stopped tonight.
spwill wrote:Waiheke Island is very popular this time of year Nev,the holiday makers won't be enjoying this weather. I think we have to go back to summer of Cyclone Fergus in 1996 for such a poor run of holiday weather for the Auckland region.

Warm and damp this morning , dewpoint of 19C. Any brightning of our weather today would quickly lift the temperature.

More elevated thunderstorms this morning for the north.

Looks like there has been quite a bit of lightning over Northland overnight.

I like the way the weatherzone picks up NZ lightning now. I'm sure it never used to.

GFS hasn't changed at all regarding convective chances today. Instability chart for 4pm this afternoon, we just need some sunshine LOL.

Not a nice morning in Auckland with rain/temp 20C.

I notice, looking at the radar, that the rain bands have been weakening fast as they move down over Auckland. Just light to moderate showers here since midnight.

Hopefully some drier brighter weather this afternoon, already warm on 19C with a dewpoint of 19C .

The lightning show was last night over Northland, hard to see much firing up inland today with the cloud cover down there unless some clearing can happen

Just 16mm here since 9am yesterday, although 13mm of that was from about 5pm. Total of 30mm since Thursday evening. Rainbands almost appear to be splitting over the Gulf. I see the Coromandel's Pinnacles has received nearly 200mm from this event so far.
