Certainly a decent size low. Last 2 runs have been showing it sliding past SW NZ. However a slight change in the situation could slam it into the SI. One to certainly watch for.

I see Tara Hills (Omarama) had a 27.4C temp range yesterday (3.1C to 30.5C).

Akld's Ardmore and Whenuapai Aero's also had relatively cool starts yesterday, with 6.9C and 7.7C respectively.

Yes, nice to have summer here this week, the general SW breeze over Auckland will be cooling for the west coast beaches but a warming affect for the east coast beaches and no sea breeze convergence.

Far from summer here today with just 15 degrees at the moment and dominant low cloud. Still a fair way off the high of 23. Tomorrow should see something a little closer to summer with the NW flow kicking in.

Weather is summery, but daytime temps still not very high given the strong January sunshine and normal daytime temps at this time of year. 23°C here today. Still waiting for the first 25ºC+ day ;) :-k

I thought that the forecast was intended to be after the cloud had cleared away, but it wasn't so.
The cloud remained persistent all day and right through to the evening...
... and will be until the NW influence tomorrow.

Haven't been keeping an eye on things, a small thunderstorm looks to of developed behind Kaikoura late afternoon / evening. Models seemed to of picked it well, I just wasn't looking at the models.... that'll teach me. Not like I could've done anything about it anyway but cool to see.

Cheers

Yes Aaron,
Several Thunderstorm Warnings were issued on the storm, based on the echo returns from the storm I am hardly surprised.

This thing breached 65dbz! (Pink on radar)

Yes very warm airflow more so than the sun today - Moderate NW and sun behind thin high cloud. If the sun gets out of the thin high cloud we may crack 30 for the first time this summer!

Thick fog approaching here this morning around 6am, till a puff of nor'wester blew it back; it was thick on the road towards Ashburton as I drove in between 7.30 & 8am.
Now temp. at Mayfield is 25.7 degrees, fallen a little [from 27] as the high cloud thickens and the sunlight fades. Strong & gusty nor'wester.
33% humidity.

The wind has risen to a gale in the last half an hour, some house-creaking gusts.
It may have backed to a little more westerly.
22.4 degrees, overcast.

Nice fine warm day this morning but a NW ruined it this afternoon with high cloud and a thickening NW Arch and cool NW winds. Only up to 27C here.

Southerly now in Chch & gusty. Still dry.
Unseasonably cold blast down south, with snow now forecast to a wintry 400m in Otago and Southland and 700m in Canterbury overnight.
