Looking for ferrite antennas, does Ricky still make them?

Wellington back up and running, picked a good day for it with storm activity north and south of NZ to test with

Just smiling this morning at the Blitz station statistics. Westport has more valid signals than actual signals shown.

And again, those bizzare readings. How can I have more valid detections than signals. They must be using different time periods for the calculations.

Re: Hi-Res TOA Lightning Detection Network
Ok, my interference level has again increased. With my existing green station now hardly ranking in their statistics, I'm considering shutting it down. Sad really, as only 3 of the 5 original Oceania detectors function today. I'm pretty sure one on those was relocated since being commissioned.,

Re: Hi-Res TOA Lightning Detection Network
Quite a good storm going on here at the moment. Curious thing is, the detection of it is being done by detectors outside of NZ. My detector is down at the moment post a laptop dying, undecided if I'll get it going again (yeah, I will, when is the question).

Re: Hi-Res TOA Lightning Detection Network
Did you manage to get anywhere? I'm assuming not, but thought I'd better ask. My station hardly contributes these days, but I'd upgrade & hopefully contribute more if practical. Otherwise it's not worth bothering. Looking at their site, give the impression they are only interested in supplying detectors in to areas not already covered, which is disappointing.Tornado Tim wrote: ↑Thu 22/03/2018 16:00 I have not registered anyone into the system as I am not an admin.
All of that has to go through Egon. Egon or Tobias would have set you up with your blitzortung account.
I also have not received any correspondence about the upgrade since, will need to email Egon about it.

Re: Hi-Res TOA Lightning Detection Network
Unfortunately correspondence has been very little (none) from Egon or Tobias on this matter. I can ask again, it has been a while since I last asked.
Would be good if we get some new units up and going.

I'm on their list, which gives the impression I'm at the far end of a hopelessly long list of people waiting & wanting.

Re: Hi-Res TOA Lightning Detection Network
I look after 2 blitzortung receivers on West Coast SI and have access to a number of solar powered comms sites at altitude across the coast.
I joined the list wanting a system blue to expand coverage, got a reply within a couple of weeks but flagged it due to cost - $540nzd + shipping + paypal fees for the full kit.
I've since damaged the USB port on one of the Red receivers but with the taste a bit soured I haven't been motivated to repair it yet.
I'd be happy to apply again if someone wants a blue and is willing to pay for it.

Re: Hi-Res TOA Lightning Detection Network
Do you think you'd still be able to get one a little quicker? I am tempted to put in detectors at 3 of the sites I look after (Minden, Takaurunga & Shaw Rd Amateur radio sites) to improve local detection, but the guys running the network seem to be deliberately manipulating where the detectors go, presumably to minimise the need to continually increase server capabilities.lokeynz wrote: ↑Mon 15/06/2020 19:13I look after 2 blitzortung receivers on West Coast SI and have access to a number of solar powered comms sites at altitude across the coast.

In the meantime, I'm, considering leaving the Green going but adding a form of AGC to it in a way that won't cause any signal delay through it. I also have a System Red up my sleeve I haven't done anything with (yet).

Re: Hi-Res TOA Lightning Detection Network
ever since the lightning detectors were installed in NZ we get way less lightning and thunderstorms than we used to
its a worse cover up and conspiracy than 5G-> covid19 I tell you!

No reply from them sorry tgsnoopy.
To top it off, the detector at Mt Frederick has been damaged by lightning

Darn, sorry to hear that. Hopefully repairable but I know lightning at radio sites.

Good to see Mt Frederick going again. Top of the NZ Detectors and a strike near 9000 km away! Well done.

Re: Hi-Res TOA Lightning Detection Network
Thanks! I repaired the USB port on 1207 and moved it to Mt Frederick and then found the lightning damage to 1210 was just the 'off the shelf' CPU board so it's been reincarnated as 2765.

Re: Hi-Res TOA Lightning Detection Network
wow didn't realize so few NZ sites left contributing. I look after the "East Auckland" red and blue ones and tbh hadn't checked on them for many many months. Are they still taking readings from red systems? just wondering whether it's worth resurrecting my red system or donating it as parts to someone else with a failed red system.

Re: Hi-Res TOA Lightning Detection Network
My green and a couple of others are still contributing. Certainly are reds still doing so. I'm pretty disappointed in them to be honest. Sometimes wonder why I bother leaving it running. At the moment they wouldn't miss me. Probably should resolve the issues it currently faces, there is no incentive to though.ShimmerNZ wrote: ↑Thu 24/09/2020 14:49 wow didn't realize so few NZ sites left contributing. Re: Hi-Res TOA Lightning Detection Network
Ok, so I splurged. I've bought a Blue system (Am awaiting it's delivery). I was quite surprised at the delay in being given a chance to buy one and then the cost to do so. I can't help wondering if the delay and cost is directly relevant to the need for detectors near your IP Address. I also suspect the cost is including a portion towards servers costs (nothing wrong with that, but they should be up front about it). I will be organising a new detector in the Waikato in the future.

Re: Hi-Res TOA Lightning Detection Network
Blue system kit arrived on Wednesday. Yet to be assembled.
Anyone know who the two "Whanagrei" detectors belong to? Both have been out of service quite some time, one with interference & the other an invalid GPS signal.

Re: Hi-Res TOA Lightning Detection Network
May I ask how much the cost was and how long the wait? One of my Darwin detectors (red) is down due to a lightning surge coming in via the network adaptor. Contemplating whether to bother repairing it or just upgrading to a blue. The red also has some non working amplifiers anyway...

I guess the irony is not lost on you. A bit like having your security camera stolen.Mozi wrote: ↑Mon 11/01/2021 13:24May I ask how much the cost was and how long the wait?
