For Invercargill, if we're measuring 5Deg in the screen, then the grass temp will begin freezing, and by 4Deg, the grass temp will be -1, and therefore technically a frost.

On that note, at the Invercargill station we are no longer doing weekly Thermograph charts for NIWA, as it turns out that us, along with Scott Base, were the last stations in NZ doing them, and they're no longer required (piece of useless info, I know).

Well today ive got and put another gauge just off the ground,so in my frost reports i can give air/ground frost temps.

If my gauge that's at about 1.6m said 6C it wouldn't even be close to a ground frost, when frost starts to forms on the car the gauge is getting close to zero.

I find that During the middle of winter when ground temperatures are low frost can form on the grass as high as 3-4c, but during the warmer months it has to get below zero for frost to form.

Oh you silly person - haven't you heard of rising sea levels due to "Climate Change" - I guess that they have to pinch the sea water from somewhere so Chatham Islands are now 301m absl :P

I see Metservice are forecasting a low of Zero tonight for Ashburton. Lowest temp in the last seven days has been 2.7. Some times I really do think they pluck a figure out of thin air. ;-)

Doesn't matter if there's no land at the snow level, it'll still mean its bloody cold, is an indicator of the freezing level, and will affect visibility for aircraft in the area.

Hmm I am not sure I like it, will have to look at it in more detail when its released. I like the Blue, I prefer it over green. The icons hopefully change they look very 90's Weather presenter style.

One thing they need to fix is the mixed horrible Javascript they are writing!
There is no need for them to use multiple Javascript Frameworks such as jQuery and Mootools, using them both introduces lot's of problems.

The new website is out now: http://beta.metservice.com/national/home

Overall I don't like it, it's less "professional" looking than the previous website.
Div elements look squished and compressed esp the Metservice TV advertisements!
I like them returning to the blue colour scheme like they had previously.

One thing they have done well on is Severe Weather Information accessibility.

I'll forward my feedback to the Web Dev Team at Metservice.

Metservice on FB have posted this:
Yes, the past weather information is still coming and will be available in the new year. I don't think there are plans to introduce the 120km radar for other areas but the 300km is really good! ^NB
I love it how a meteorologist can say that a 300KM radar image is really good, esp if you want decent detail out of an image, LOL.

I think the map on the home-page looks cluttered compared to the old one, and I can't seem to find any return links to the home-page anywhere else?

Also, not only can you no longer view all the temps for the major cities with multiple sites at a glance, but they seem to have ignored pleas to bring back a national map where temp and wind data obs can be viewed at a glance (even if was only every 3 hours).

Dont like it at all, to much going on and i think its to much like some glossy cheap app you may download for your phone or tablet.
Dont like how you cant see the high and lows for towns by just drifting mouse over them.

its fast though...maybe because its not being viewed by everyone yet?
I see they are using mouse over works links
also the important things are right there, easy to find..
its different, will take getting used to, but first impressions for me was that once you get used to it , it will be OK
