Re: General February Weather
Despite the lousy summer overall it's good to see some rain on the way this week, we've had plants trying to drop dead round here from the dry conditions. About 7mm of light rain in the last 24hrs

Re: General February Weather
Another dull overcast day for Canterbury.
I would prefer Northern NZ's climate with its higher dewpoints, sure we might get the odd hot day down here but generally its cold.Must have been spoilt after spending 6 years in the tropics.

Re: General February Weather
Isolated small convergence showers have developed it seems, just had a brief one pass over in Howick. A humid 23-24C here this afternoon.

An unexpectedly pleasant day in Reefton.
Currently 28.1°C. The forecast was for cloud increasing with afternoon rain and a high of 22°C, but while there is a bit of cloud around, it's certainly not threatening to become anything more just at the moment.

Up to 26C at Greylynn, dewpoint 19C, a few towering Cu around
There is so much variation in weather down there depending on flow and where the air mass has its origins. A normal Summer would have more of the favoured NW flow.Deano wrote:Another dull overcast day for Canterbury.

Re: General February Weather
Just another seasonal flavour, a quite bizarre one in this instance. Exceptionally low sun hours this month in various parts, and even Blenheim did very poorly in that regard in December. If it were 1988-89 you wouldn't have been envying the northerners at all. But yes, if you spend a few years in a much warmer climate zone adjustment problems can be expected.Deano wrote:Another dull overcast day for Canterbury.

Re: General February Weather
I have been reading about the poor February weather everyone's been having (not just on this forum) and been biting my tongue a wee bit. It hasn't been like that here. I will admit the sun hasn't been out as much as I'd like, but the temperatures certainly have been rosy.
Our average daily max for Feb is sitting on 26.4°C, with only 1 day below 20°C and 8 days above 27°C.
We've also had very little rain (14.5mm). Not sure it's been a West Coast thing, or just us inland with the extra temps that have been having it good, but it's been a great first half of February here.
The NIWA site down the road shows only 57 hours sunshine all month so far, so a paltry 4.75 hrs a day...
This is compared to January, which was rather dull. But December was also very nice and warm, especially during the 2nd half.

Re: General February Weather
I may have already posted these numbers - record low for Ch'ch Feb. sun is 112 hours in 1966 (NZ low is just 70 hours - Haast 1966 and Timaru 1974). Wellington is also a long way short of Feb. mean at present.
