Two claps of Thunder in CBD 10 minutes ago, now all quiet. They were very much "bolts from the blue"

has cooled down considerably now, heating seems to have ceased as the overcast develops, and no more interesting fresh convection to the S that i can see.

Continuous sunshine here so plenty of heat blowing inland towards the storms. Starting to hear distant thunder again.Vertigo wrote:has cooled down considerably now, heating seems to have ceased as the overcast develops, and no more interesting fresh convection to the S that i can see.

i really like how the waikato is still sunny and heating. means we will have more fuel for the fire when things do finally fire up.
looking really good on radar. looks like the January spell of 2010 when we had a good run of storms.

Seems to be multiple storms as I have heard thunder from different directions this afternoon. Plenty of rumbling to the SW and S. I saw a fork of lightning which produced the loudest rumble heard here today

Re: Thunder possible this week starting 13th Feb
I am glad Hamilton isnt getting anything yet as a thunderstorm now will stop any from developing later.....
Checkout the huge microburst in of the storms the radar echo dropping is very significant: here
Radar is from 2.30 to 3.10 PM or thereabouts.

Heavy rain has stopped over northern parts of Papakura however thunder continues to crack and rumble overhead.

Seems this cell stretches a fair way west with aircraft climbing off Auckland in a southwesterly direction and climbing straight ahead to the coast before turning south.

Auckland council rain gauge at Patumahoe in S Auckland reads 25.5 mm in the last hour
http://maps.auckland.govt.nz/hydrotel4/ ... tchment=28
Radar suggests rain is edging onto Howick but there are just a few spots of rain here and there.
