Rain radar suggesting development or storm activity in south Canterbury now

Thunderstorms possible 24th Feb Canterbury!!

With a colder S-SW change moving up the island late this afternoon/evening we should see some storms fire up, it is very westerly at the moment but some weaker CU is forming to the south.
There is also possibly a few storms showing up around north otago/south canterbury now.
I will be taking chase pehaps abit closer to home this time as the set up looks like it will flank inland like it did last month, Oxford to Rangiora and Amberley might be the better hot spots to be but some activity on the coast too i guess.
Time will tell.

Yeah. noted a few weak Cu congestus forms going up around a quarter to four, eastern side of TC. No bass or tops being established and the first cell glaciated quite early. More congestussy forms to the SW/West in the TC area, now with some I hope will 'blow-out'.

Wind has gone southerly here now and there are some massive clouds approaching; lightning-static on radio getting frequent. Some very turbulent-looking raggedy grey cloud to west.
19.7 degrees & 51% humidity.
(Going to unplug computer & phones now to be on the safe side!)

Big CU overhead in addington right now, a weak CB has developed over BP going out towards new brighten by looks, and offshore. might be a very coastal event again being a SW and NW before the change.

good signs going by the radar so far. development inland heading straight fro the city on the latest run. Maybe this NW flow aloft might be good for christchurch pushing them out to coast

Main front and colder air further south where the thunderstorms are so anything ahead of it is a bonus, might be a brief southerly flick before it which is good gets rid of the westerly anyway.
Quite intense down there on the latest radar.
Edit- Reports of marble sized hail in Timaru, just about time to head out i think.

Gone southerly here now but still 21C. Looks like something coming out of TC at the moment but it does look good down Timaru way for later \:D/

Just had a distant thunder roll from development in TC. This system now moving out to the east just to the south of here. Coming onto rain now with sky 'filling in'. Lots of lovely sfericals

Does it look like the storms are weakening? I'm not picking up many zaps on my radio.

Looks like that stuff from outta TC has merged with the colder air coming up from the south and has made it all ovecast and much cooler now. Thunder chances are dropping away considerably, but I hope I'm wrong :-(

The radio just isn't humming like it does when a good one approaches. What a shame, it was looking quite good for awhile.

At the storm's height we had nearly constant thunder, I saw one brilliant flare of lightning illuminate the scene; had five minutes or so of fat-pea-size hail which was hitting the windows and really thudding on the roof at times.
Seems to have gone quiet now so have dared to plug internet back in (previous post done on mobile ph.)
11.8 degrees, 75% humidity.
The wind here is very much south-easterly, even ESE, rather than southerly. Low grey cloud rushing in from that direction, some nasty-looking stuff further to the north-east. Some light rain.
