ESE, I see. From the easterly quater....yeah, that'll do.

I'm thinking maybe some buildups, possibly thundery for Auckland today. There's a cold pool of -25/-26 sitting over them . Here in Chch it's -21/-22 (500mb). So around 3pm onwards if anythings going to happen around Auckland, what do you think Steven W? I'm looking foward to a report!! ;)

It's looking slightly thundery today with scatered Cu humulus around.
The deeply unstable air over the South Island yesterday has moved on.
Just glancing todays Invercargill sounding, no chance of thunderstorms over Canterbury though should get a few cumulus tops upto about 2500m.

As for Auckland, the nimbostratus never really cleared and we have got the steady rain back.

You'd have to imagine that if some sun got in there would be thunder in Auckland today, it's a bumber that nimbo doesn't clear. I guess a similar situation as we had in Canterbury yesterday.

I've finally ordered on of the bolteks, so that will be fun to play with when it arrives.. will need lots of storms to calibrate it :)

I was watching the Canterbury one during the west coast strikes.. looks like it needs about a 0.4 distance correction for the western sector range..

MetService have under-estimated this rain, its clearing much more slowly.

Good to here Brian! Now for some lightning! Well ok, maybe not tonight but good to here some clouds sprung up.

Great news ricky on getting a boltek. We've got the country covered now!! Maybe it would be interesting to compare results where the two systems overlap to asses accuracy. Will you be putting it on the web? Maybe Brian could help? No worries if not though.

Fantastic news, a Nth Island Boltek..sensational effort Ricky!!! I am still working on the missus to allow me to spend the cash to obtain one, however she argues that stock drench is more important than a lightning detector... :x lol :D !!

Like Brian, I am ore than happy to send a donation to you if needed!!

Brian, have to agree re the cloud formation, very low base and very dark, still no thunder tho...altho very steady rain for most of the day 20mm +, temp is now 10.5C and Baro rising at 1008.6Hpa... possibly a fine day tommorow... ;)
