6am rain radar for Aucklnad looked good!
Lightning striked picked up on Steven Grahams site just out of Dunedin, seems abit odd being little cloud etc down there!!! at about 7;30
Pressure back on the rise up to 1011hp, and had 2.4mm of rain yesterday, Nothing compared too what you've had up north!!

Yes, the evapotranspiration rates are on the rise now.we actualy needed some rain....otherwise it would end up getting drier and drier over the next month if that wind kept up!
No doubt there will be a lot of anomalous strikes on this type of system.Lightning striked picked up on Steven Grahams site just out of Dunedin, seems abit odd being little cloud etc down there!!! at about 7;30
The Boltek will be useful though in a thundery outbreak over Canterbury.
Rain has cleared here. Despite a K index of 30 and LI around +1.0 there was no thunderstorms. About this time last year, off a similar system we got a great lightning show.

So I take it the closer the strikes eg Canturbury the more reliable it is? that would make sinceNZstorm wrote:No doubt there will be a lot of anomalous strikes on this type of system.

Good day here 12 C, 3 C dew point, Calm with some small build ups on the alps . Noticed a fire this morning in chch, saw the smoke going straight up!! aka no wind!

Yes Steven, some Cumulus has begun to build up around the place within the last hour. Bigger clouds to the North along the coast, but they don't warrant a Cu congestus stage yet. It's actually ENE here, so maybe a slight NE, SW convergence?
I didn't see that fire this morning, being me I was probably up to late.
Yes, with the boltek the closer the strikes are to Chch the better it will peform in my opinion. I read on the boltek site from someone who submited an endorsment saying that if storms were far away, quite often the bearing is good but the distance is not the best in terms of accuracy. But when thunderstorms were nearby it performed very well. So as Steven W says, I feel it will perform well for the whole of Canterbury on a thundery day.
