Yes lovely day like yesterday again.

It be Venus its near superior conjunction (well it will in June) so it be getting at its maximum brightness in late april.
As for jupiter its now the little dot to the left of venus and wil be gone for the time being in a couple of weeks.

Popped out for a burger at lunchtime and managed to snap this picture. I'm claiming it as a Kelvin-Helmholtz, though not a very good one. Gutted I only had my iPhone with me. I'll post this in the Photographs thread as well.

Yes. Kelvin-Helmholtz all-right. nice shot
It's a shame there wasn't another name for this cloud, like one in the Luke Howard series of classification.
Any suggestions? and nothing to do with prefix anus, please :-$ [-X

I was so excited I almost ran off the road when I saw it. I was in such a rush to park so I could get a shot of it.

Fantastic end to the month here on the west coast, couldn't have asked for better wx than this. It was super crisp this morning however with lots of dew in the sheltered areas at work.. luckily enough I work within earshot of a very big boiler so winter mornings wont be "too" unpleasant haha.

PS: Fab. shot of the K-H waves.. surf's up! :B

Agree with above.. very cool foggy start this morning with the 'barber' in full flight, but it all burnt off at lunchtime to a stunner of an afternoon!

Eek, just relocated my anemometer to a less sheltered spot, and the wildlife that came out of it was something else. A massive spider and an even more massive weta! Ugh.

Lovely end to March here. Saw some fantastic cirrocumulus this morning, and something that looked like mamma in some kind of cirrus. It was thin and looked like the coat of a newly-shorn sheep, but with a bubbly sort of bottom. I've never seen it before. I thought mamma only happened after storms?

Wellington sun total for March (a month that was also cooler and wetter than average) was 156.5 hours, 38 below the long-term mean and 48 below the 1981-2010 average. Lowest since 1987. More drastic is the "inter-equinox" record - the total for October-March was only 1041 hours, the smallest value in 105 years of records at city sites. Previous low was 1070 hours in 1957-58 and 1992-93.

For Oct-Feb, the Mangere site had only about 827 hours, so the 6-month tally will be quite low (for the calendar year 2011 however, its 2010 hours were better than W'gton's 1955). The North Shore site has had considerably higher readings but as an EWS I suspect it's a bit optimistic, or at least not easy to compare with manual readings.

No wonder I've felt a bit flat. I'm very mood-affected by poor sunshine hours, and I've been very aware how extreme the cloudiness has been this summer. Hopefully it'll balance out more as the year continues.

A cool March. Days in March with the maximum temperature below 20C ( Airports), Auckland 3, Hamilton 5, Wellington 24, Christchurch 22, Dunedin 20.
Dunedin City and NewBrighton Christchurch had 26 days with a maximum temperature below 20C.

The Niwa Summary https://www.niwa.co.nz/sites/default/fi ... ch2012.pdf

No sunshine hrs for Auckland but my hunch is the Ak sunshine hrs were not far from average with the fine last week to the month.
