Re: Total Solar Eclipse: 14 November 2012
Perfect conditions to view the eclipse in Ashburton this morning - the only clouds were on the horizon.
Light noticeably dimmed and temperature perceptibly cooler.
The usual "dappled" pattern of shade from tree-leaves changed to a pattern of light and dark crescent-shapes - I always find this fascinating.
cbm, you'll be delighted with that photo showing what one might assume to be Venus.
All photos very good - thanks for sharing, everyone.

Re: Total Solar Eclipse: 14 November 2012
Last time we had a Solar eclipse visible from Tauranga wasn't that long ago. Sadly the weather wasn't very complaint, but this time it was much better with only occasional passing clouds.
Last time I bought 3 welding mask glass lenses for about $13 from Mitre 10 Mega. This time I actually got to use them. Found you really needed two to be able to view it for any period of time.
We watched from our workshop until about 10.30am, letting staff from neighboring businesses, the neighbours in the house behind & her boys currently doing exams and even the local courier driver have a look. Then I hit the road, visiting a friend & his wife, a DHB Management office & the PHN & School, dental offices where staff got to look before finishing at the city's largest dental clinic where staff & patients all got to have a look.
It was a good morning, well worth the little effort required to give quite a few others the chance to take a look.

I noticed it you could see the tint in the sun on the ground etc it was almost like looking through a tinted car window.
Quite something to be part of thats for sure, and i did note the temperature drop during it too.

Thought it was a bit like sunlight through burn off smoke, very yellow looking. Got cool and very little heat in the sunlight.

I sort of noticed that too, although I think it would be due to the eye perceiving colour more easily with a less intense sun.
