Should be highest temperature rather than hottest.Richard wrote:Yes and i see that Culverden didnt make it onto the 'Hottest centres' list on 23.1,Ashburton toped the list 22.1.
A nice morning around much of NZ for ANZAC parades. A mild start here, already 19C.

Re: General April Weather
^ I think MetService only include 'towns and cities' in that list, i.e. with a population of 1,000 or more. Culverden only has about 420 residents (according to Statistics NZ 2006), so more of a 'township' or 'village', whereas Ashburton, with a population of over 27,000, would be regarded as a very large town.

I didn't realize that many people lived in Ashburton, You wouldn't think so driving though the town.Nev wrote:^ whereas Ashburton, with a population of over 27,000, would be regarded as a very large town.

But really thats BS,not having a go at you Nev but really , it should be all over all there recording stations, after all its not the case when it comes to coldest, windiest and wettest ,many of those recordings stations dont have populations of 1,000 or moreNev wrote:^ I think MetService only include 'towns and cities' in that list, i.e. with a population of 1,000 or more. Re: General April Weather
Another stunner out there, possibly the last blue dome day for awhile once the high cloud rolls in tomorrow.
Finally got around to taking a photo of my weather station, wireless solar power weather station.
Wind direction and speed, Rainfall in mm accumulted in 24 hours, Pressure readings and history, Indoor and outdoor temperature, Relative Humidity indoor and outdoor, weather tendancy ( which isnt always correct for example it has a rain symbol for today lol ).
It also has the date and time, and computer software so i can view the stats.
Not sure how i would get it up and running on a website as i am sure i could do this if i wanted to?.

The lists should be regarded as provisional anyway for at least a few days, regardless of how many places are included.

A brilliant day here today, mostly sunny but some cloudy areas at times. Almost reached 20C. Nights are looking much milder for several days ahead

Ashburton District would have a population of around 30,000; the town itself a pop. of some 17,000.snowstormwatcher wrote:I didn't realize that many people lived in Ashburton, You wouldn't think so driving though the town.Nev wrote:^ whereas Ashburton, with a population of over 27,000, would be regarded as a very large town.

Sundays wintry trough over the SouthIsland will be the start of the cold season down there. There should be some lovely scenery around Qtwn and Wanaka on Monday and Tuesday with the Mnt snow and peak Autumn colour.

Looks as if May will start on a similar note but tad cooler with an anticyclone at this stage.

Certainly looks like a nice wintry blast catching the far south on Monday. Perhaps some snow as low as 400m in the Catlins if todays gfs verifies.

Re: General April Weather
A warn night here, currently 18C. I don't see any thunderstorm activity with the front currently.
A dry month here, I think Aucklands April rainfall will finish up between 15-20mm, temperature a little above average and a very sunny month.
I see Greylynn has had only 1 day with a maximum temperature below 20C so far this April.

Re: General April Weather
After all the recent cool nights we've had, it felt very warm here last night with 18°C and over 90% humidity!
Some rain in the last 30 mins but doesn't look like much of a front on radar, 1mm here and it seems to be clearing already...

Wow - 9 days here that didn't make the 20.0 mark, though many of those were 19.5-19.8C. Whangaparoa has had 15 days not reaching 20.0spwill wrote: I see Greylynn has had only 1 day with a maximum temperature below 20C so far this April.

Re: General April Weather
A lot of Easterly flow is the reason, but higher minimums in the east, lowest min temperature at Whangaporoa in April was 12.5C, the average minimum at Whangaporoa will be above 14C for the month.David wrote:Wow - 9 days here that didn't make the 20.0 mark, though many of those were 19.5-19.8C. Also sunshine hrs will be lower north of Browns Bay due to all the easterlies.

Re: General April Weather
Re Whangaporoa, I'm not sure that that site is a good representation of either temps in the east or the North Shore. Those max/min temps are generally the odd ones out, because the site is located virtually on the very tip of a long, narrow peninsular extending about 10 km into the Gulf, and therefore very much tempered by surrounding SST's. NIWA's Albany site is considerably further east than Whenuapai, but for the most part seems to record maxima and minima similar to both Whenuapai and Ardmore. Eastern areas do however often seem to record lower temps during SSE'ers.

Yes, it is the extreme side of the easterly affect during April, wetter and cloudier up there.Nev wrote:Re Whangaporoa, I'm not sure that that site is a good representation of either temps in the east or the North Shore.
