What strange wind flow here of late, looks as if its been completely around the compass overnight by the leaves etc.Yesterday was similar but mostly light yesterday.

Re: Antarctic Low - April 29-May 1
big drop in the dew point here
clouds have cleared here...apart from the high cloud from the north tasman system
barometer rising steadily
very oridinary/normal SW front and very ordinary SW shower flow for most places by the looks apart from southland and SW otago which is getting cold showery conditions at the moment (and the southern end of the west coat of the SI)

Clearing now in Dunedin after a day of reasonably heavy rain. Not so sure about the squally hail showers that were forecast anymore

Wintry temps down south according to obs - looks like snow to fairly low levels about Catlins going by the temps at Nugget Point.
By contrast, a sunny day so far in Chch, but now gradually building up to the south.

Latest radar shows rain band clipping southern BP - I can see dark cloud over the Port Hills. Might not reach Chch if flow is southwesterly.

Re: Antarctic Low - April 29-May 1
I was in Ashburton today and drove home through a blustery southeasterly change at 4.40pm: leaves, sticks and bits of bark from gum-trees blowing all over the road, quite disconcerting.
Now 7.5 degrees with ragged unpleasant-looking clouds coming over from the west.

Re: Antarctic Low - April 29-May 1
Certainly a very cold fetch of air today.. didn't really get much above 13ºc even when the sun was out! (Which wasn't very often..)
Tipped 135mm out of the nylex from last night & todays accumulated rainfall.. that ontop of the 150+ a couple of days previous has really ended the month well!

Another magic day in ChCh. Main action to report is nearly another full day of 8/8 sunshine. Any rubbish out over the peninsula and over the sea.

Re: Antarctic Low - April 29-May 1
Its a pitty that change today didnt come to much even if we had abit of hail mixed in with some showers along the windchange would have been nice, just a dry change could see the evident southerly line coming over the peninnsula on the way home.
Abit of light rain out there at the moment though seems to be very localised to north canterbury, currently 7C.

Showers clipping Banks Peninsula, now starting to move onto Chch. (only takes a slight change of wind direction) Cold gusty winds sure intensifying the wind-chill.
