Very nice shot Aaron, well done!
Developing CB's to the south, not surprising the CB's to the north are more thundery than the ones around here.

Re: Unstable Southern Tasman Low, 12th to 16th May
I watched a distant lightning show from this Cb top this morning at sunrise it was unfortunately too light for a lightning photo opportunity. Photo of the Cb cloud from Mangere about 7.30am.

Well the temps have certainly dropped this afternoon, just as cold as first thing this morning! Down to 11ºC. Not as windy here today as the forecast suggested...

Is it just me or is that cell off New Plymouth got rotation movement, watch it on the radar run between 5:50pm until now and you will see what i mean.
Maybe a waterspout within that cell somewhere.

Re: Unstable Southern Tasman Low, 12th to 16th May
yes, does look like there is a small low center running up the coastline from Taranaki
the squall line associated with that is about to hit here...get some big gusts
I see stuff.co.nz reports a flight form auckland to wellington had to turb back at 5:30pm due to a electrical storm...I wonder where that was?

Re: Unstable Southern Tasman Low, 12th to 16th May
Couple photos from yesterday evening:
Looking NW from Darfield
A nice lowering that stuck round from 20min. At one point it looked like it had a funnel out of it, but as we were unable to confirm any rotation so Im not sure.
One of the best cloud bases I've seen in a while, looking S from Darfield. Lightning was flashing away in the distance.

Re: Unstable Southern Tasman Low, 12th to 16th May
Interesting there Steve he must be a photographer, great CG shot but i like Aarons shots best.
Looks like the next front is on its way up the island, should be really brief but might get some hail mixed in with it and a brief dusting down low as its quite cold out there now.
Although having said that the temperature has gone from 2.2C up to 3.1C in half an hour.

Very good photos, a great variety of cloud-forms to choose from that day! Well done the photographers.
