Boy its really heavy here ATM

good stuff Richard! glad there having fun!! im sure that wont be the last time this winter either. being so early into it.
just lighter stuff here now.. but still going, and a total white out! great how the street lights light up the air to an orange affect, and the sky has that orange grey affect at night when its snowing.. it always feels very enclosed when snowing to, u can see it, the visability is extremly poor. absolutely love it

Quick update from the coast here & in 1 word, mayhem! Mum was woken by the fire brigade around 0630 this morning with her house full of water. Pretty much all furnishings & stuff have been lost, but she is insured & staying a few houses up the road with us. We have had snow, sleet, flooding obviously .. it's been horrific. Just glad to be home (almost didn't make it due to flooding) but grateful that it is the worst of it.. were a lot better off than some people tonight.

stopped here now the snow, absolutly frezing out there currently -0.2 though and the skies are clearing to a s clear night so -3 will definately be on the cards, who ever attemps or thinks starting work at the usual time tomorrow is a good idead will be rudely interupted with the amount of ice overnight thats going to come about.
Theres about 10-12 cm of snow out there now and its going to freeze!!
Anyways thats me for this event, might update tomorrow on how the ice and frost was!! going to be interesting!

over and out! on to the next event

Snow falling at sea-level over there Dale? Marlborough should still be getting low level snow according to 6pm obs. Only 3C in Blenheim with recent precipitation.
Must be about 20cm where I'm at in Merivale; stopped (bar some light snow showers) about 4-4.30pm.

That was certainly a good event in the end, i was beginning to wonder when i peaked outside at 4am and the ground was just wet if we were going to get any snow but i guess that was only not even halfway through the system.
Yes slightly more out this way and by the judge of others photos with the depths etc, 14-15cm in some places grass and concreate surfaces i think the 1.5 hours of steady HUGE!! snowflakes helped to put a good coating down as that band sat over us.
By the sounds of it some areas closer into the peninnsula got less with a sheltering affect, do we know how much fell in the likes of Sumner and Redcliffes?.
So not as deep as the August dump last year but possibly the third biggest fall in terms of accumulation in my lifetime, with 1992 being the biggest and last years second on 20cm.
Those frosts will be a problem tomorrow morning with black ice on the roads so might pay to avoid dings and turn up to work around 10am for some.
Looks like quite a few quick cold blasts ahead Fridays has the most punch at this stage, snow down to 300m but brief will be some cold air left around with the snow so maybe some sleet in the showers even.

Yea i just read that on weatherwatch if its snowing to sea level there in Blenheim its only a few kms across water to Wellington so the high suburbs might still get some snow perhaps.

Yes, a max-temp of just 1.0C would be Chch Aero's all-time record based on 24 hr obs from 9am and providing it doesn't get above that before 9am this morn (note that yesterday's calendar-day started with 6.9C just after midnight). The previous record was 1.7C on Aug 27, 1992 from records going back to 1954.

I see MS 6am obs had the airport on -6C this morn.

This morning really shows how incorrect the MS recording site of Culverden is,if its saying CHCH airport on -6C while its shows Culverden on-2C and -13C here 20km away.
