General July Weather
Interesting to see how July will be.
Well of course it should be cold, as July is the coldest month of the year, but it could be a 'mild' start as a trough slowly crosses the country?
What's behind it dosen't look like much, as a great anticyclone over Australia lurks moving slowly towards us. I hope it dosen't dip south and give us a splurge of cold weather, ie snow to places that don't want it.

Re: General July Weather
An 8C start here after a light frost yesterday. Hopefully some thunder this week, the upper NI has the best chance.
The cold southerly next weekend lacks cold upper level support at this stage so the showers will be mostly along the coast. Not much precipitaion for the Ski fields I would say.

Re: General July Weather
Yes it does look like some thunder will be on the cards for parts of the North Island this week with the passage of some frontal systems.
A cool morning here with a fantastic display of Altocumulus-Makerel Sky.

There was a stunning view of Mt Ruapehu from Hamilton all day today. I love these days when you can see that mountain so clearly.

Re: General July Weather
I see Timaru is down to -5 already, yet they aren't that far inland at all...

Re: General July Weather
That's taken at the airport which 10km inland, I still don't trust the night temperatures from there as they seem to low compared to the old site.David wrote:I see Timaru is down to -5 already, yet they aren't that far inland at all...
Its -4.7 here in a basin at 300m ASL yet some how its -5 at 40 ASL closer to the coast it just doesn't stack up.

Re: General July Weather
And ChCh is 10 degrees warmer...due to low cloud.
Hard to fathom why Timarus official Metservice temps are recorded that far away from the city.
