If that happened that would be one of the wettest weeks on record for the city...You have to realise GFS is a rough guide and doesnt take into consideration local knowledge of the area.

Hitting the road at 5am tomorrow for Alex via the Lindis. Not expecting any action other than some drizzle/ moderate rain for the large part. Alex usually in the rain shadow a bit for easterly weather too.

Action looks to be shifting north a little in the updated warning with the clutha/southland warnings lifted and more rain north of the rakaia this time not south canterbury, 150mm north 120m south.

As expected, Areas south of Rakaia are More sheltered. Ive seen it time and time again all the heaviest rain and snow generally goes North of Ashburton more so in Winter than summer for some reason.

Been out to Burkes pass and there's steady but not overly heavy rain falling there.
Nothing much in Fairlie yet just light showers every now and then.

Southland wasn't included in any warnings. There was a 'watch' out but we were removed from that yesterday morning. Currently, a strong SE wind with drizzle.

Calm before the storm,I expect big totals of rain in South/Mid Canterbury once the flow shifts more onshore.
Metre or more snowfalls for the local skifields.
Steady light rain here now.

The cold front crossing the Auckland heading south is certainly intensifying in the past few hours.
Metservice's prediction of it intensifying was bang on.
Question will be now if Thunderstorms will develop on it......

I can see big bright white anvils to the SW. rather dark looking to the North as the front approaches Hamilton.

GFS has been showing the front getting more active this afternoon but been very weak with the instability, but I wouldn't rule out possibility of elevated thunder. Rain is easing up in Grey Lynn.
