Re: General August Weather
Cloudy north of Takapuna this morning, fine to the south.
Currently sunny here,16C. No cold spells this August, the average daily maximum for Auckland has been over 16C this August , I think around 16.5C.

Re: General August Weather
110mm of rain here this month and 36 hours of sun so far so well short of the norm of 95 hours, cool to with all the cloud but the lack of cold nights has made the average look to good.

Re: General August Weather
The sun numbers from both W'gton and Christchurch this month will make appalling reading, with a possible low record for Wellington (79 in 1966 is the current low value).melja wrote:110mm of rain here this month and 36 hours of sun so far so well short of the norm of 95 hours, cool to with all the cloud but the lack of cold nights has made the average look to good.
The rainfall distribution this month bears some resemblance to August 1952, but the extremly dry conditions in the SW of the South Island look as if they will be interrupted.
Some rainfall totals for 8/1952: Hanmer 224 Hapuku 529 Kaikoura 242; Hawea Flat 5 Invercargill 7 Milford 49 Queenstown 1.

Re: General August Weather
Nice day again with 16C. A bit of t/cu.
A lot of lightning in the western Tasman today. There was a huge amount of lightning (elevated storms) over inland Aussie yesterday and I notice Sydney got some storms from the trough with gale westerlies.

Re: General August Weather
Am wondering about the possibility of thunder tomorrow evening about the coast south of Banks Peninsula much like MS have in their outlook. Won't create a seperate thread just yet but will see how things look a bit later on. Quite a cold pool of air, -28 to -30 at 500mb.
Cheers

Re: General August Weather
Yes, same here Aaron.
This could be the first of a series of thunderstorms we may get here this Spring and summer.

Re: General August Weather
Yes early signs would be nice to get something thundery as its not unheard of for August, the westerly prior tomorrow isnt too strong either so could sneak in a few isolated areas of coastal sea breezes further south.
Nice warm few days this weekend hitting 22C today, spring flowers are out lawns lush green and coming to life feels like weve left that clag of the past few weeks behind us now.
Hard to believe weve had 112mm this month so far.

Re: General August Weather
Interesting to hear that, have checked the metservice maps of thunder outlook, and they have a low risk right up to Christchurch.. as we all know when there is a low risk at times we get something more so then moderate risks etc.. i might charge up my video camera incase something does fire up, ill be out of work by 3 30 if things do look good. And will meet you some where Aaron and jase etc who ever wants to chase.

Re: General August Weather
Brief splattery rain at Westerfield and Mayfield around 2.30pm.
Now thin low cloud coming from the east, with higher cloud advancing from the west, and a general build-up in the south.
Temp. 10.5 degrees now (what a lovely couple of days we've had to this point).
