Very steady rain in southbridge, wind picking up a bit too. Our normally weather tight house has sprung a few weird leak! I've sent hubby up into the roof with a torch.

This has been the biggest rainmaker of 2012 for us here in ChCh. Likely to be some tidal issues innundation today for folk out east around the rivers I suspect.

Pockets of surface flooding all around town, and a major retaining wall collapse in Lyttelton by the sounds of things. And its still raining reasonably steadily, no sign of a let up. Not what we needed, be interesting to see how things are tracking in South Canty which was already sodden from 2 wet weeks.

Much cooler this morning I suspect the hills are getting a faily big snow dump.

Squally SW rain in central Christchurch. Steady 8C.

Avon River high, but not extraordinary.

Hope those further downstream are OK with high tide this afternoon.

Christchurch City Council update: Several Banks Penisula roads closed due to slips and fallen debris.

Heavy rain in the area is causing widespread surface flooding, Days Rd, Canterbury St, Simeon Quay and Voelas Rd in Lyttelton are also closed.

Stopped raining here, Certainly wasn't expecting it to clear so early.
Snow level looks to be around 700-800m.

Some drizzle in the Mackenzie overnight, but mostly dry today and even blue sky about. Mt. John had some light snow yesterday but I'm told there was not much or nothing 300m below at the village level.

Paddocks around the area in flood. Raging from one side of road to others. Henderson Road could have been shut in couple hours but rain has stopped here now. 71mm for the system.

53mm for here since 8am yesterday, plenty of surface flooding about this morning with torrents of water through road sides.
It certainly has eased up through out the day to just thick rain/drizzle, i would say more scattered showers from now on and into tomorrow but prolonged showers nothing heavy except for further south.
Parts of the city or inland mid/north canterbury would have had more than 100mm over the past few weeks, so should be a reasonable run into spring for farmers once the water tables settle.

Went for a run tonight down the Heathcote from Cashmere to St Martins and back. Was knee deep water in the road in a few places, its even encroaching onto Centaurus down by Bowenvale. Tomorrow's rain might be scary for those folk

Yes i saw some of that with the road closers around the river. Back to driving drizzle/light rain here again now.

Update: Can hear the rain on the roof again now. Very nice band to the south of the city out to sea in the Canterbury bight. Northern tip clipping CHCH at times.
