Just had one very close very loud CC flash... still only occasional very large drops of rain. Quite unusual.

OK, this won't win me a Pulitzer Prize just yet but it does show Auckland's possible funnel cloud today - while it may have been taken through a window, on a Blackberry, with no zoom and into the sun, what it does show is the direction. Pic taken from the end of Ferncroft St looking across Grafton Bridge, which would place it over Grey Lynn/Arch Hill or thereabouts, at 4.37pm.

Got keen and went for a drive, but by the time I got to my observation spot only a few minutes away it knew and stopped it's show :( Oh well, I saw a few flashes and heard a bit of thunder.

Interesting reports from someone here at home..

A loud roar and vibration.. going outside the clouds were swirling around above and the neighbours kids were yelling "did you see that!?" Interestingly there were occasional lumps of hail falling down from strange angles, otherwise rain free. Must've been some mighty updraughts going on there.
A few houses down nearer the park there were shredded small tree branches and bits of building paper and materials over the ground.
This was at 3:51pm, it looks like there was also something a bit later and further away as mentioned, at 4:35, when another brief wind gust, similar but weaker, was recorded here.
Video from the webcam shows some great cloud movement and a jolt as the wind hits.
Wish I had've been at home!

I took a number of pix of the nice cloud formations in and around the hill country in Paekakariki today - leading up to rainbows, Cu-nimb, etc. Came over us, but didn't dump anything. The speed of the updraft in some of those forming clouds was awesome, you could stand there and watch them rising at a rapid rate of knots. Always welcome to flog any of my pix. Interesting report Ricky and definitely a tornado in Brassnz photo

I don't have an exact time for my funnel cloud photo as the camera time is not set (whoops!) but when I first spotted it it was a long way down toward the ground. Likely the 4.35pm.
