Rainfall accumulation for next 3 days gfs.

The front over the west of the North Island Saturday has a low level jet (2000ft wind) NW of 60kts so I think Taranaki/Waitomo's rainfall will come in higher the 50mm shown.

Very mild start out there 17 degrees at the moment and didnt drop much below that last night by the looks. Looking like some very warm days for this time of year ahead over the next 3 or 4 days.

Had a few claps of Thunder and some sheet lightning here Just after Midnight, Must have spilled over from the West coast.

Mild Again this morning on 11 degrees.

Looks like Taranaki to kapiti Coast is the spot for squally thunderstorms with hail over the North Island over the weekend.
A couple of significant polar troughs, one later tomorrow and the another later Sunday.
The Sunday pm event comes a bit further north so maybe western Waikato will be affected?

Looks like a nice cold blast on the cards for the southwest of NZ early week!

I like that type of lightning when it happens here,we get it on at least two or three occasions a year when the NW is behaving like it is at the moment thats why i thought we may have had some this morning when it rained at 5.00am.

Was the lightning directly overhead snowstormwatcher

Not directly overhead but surprisingly close to Fairlie, Normally NW lightning is way over the mountains and is hardly visible from Town, but this time it was well East the mountains and was close enough to light the house up.

Mostly cloudy again here - at least it's been nice and mild.
Looks like you some very strong NW'ers coming up at your place Brian...

Certainly had some lightning activity on the West Coast overnight.
In Reefton it started at 3.30am with some very good ones at 4:30am which cut our power for 4-5 hours.

Re: Disturbed Westerly, Assoc Low Pressure Systems, 7-10 Sept
Indeed it was- and just to make you all jealous my wife actually woke me up at 4am to see the storm as she didn't want me to miss it, and she knew how much I (we) love watching them
You win _b . My wife's just choosen a Jucy campervan so we can head south while her parents look after our children next week. I hope the "showers and cold southwesterlies" disappear from the forecast as that wont make for the best "3rd honeymoon" as she's kind of solar powered (but does want to loop through Dunedin and Alexandra at this time of year).

I'll look out for your advice closer to the time to see if we need to take gumboots...

General September Weather

Unread post by jamie »

I've had my new house up on hydrolic jacks for all of today and due to the weather it's staying 1.5m in the air on the jacks for the night. A bit scary today with the 65km+ gusts we keep getting. This weather has not been good for moving a house onto a property.
