Am at Westerfield just at present, certainly some major clouds about including a classic 'anvil' towards Mt Peel half an hour ago, and a colossal lightning-flash to the NE. Skies clear overhead here but much cloud to the east.

Huge cell over the Banks to the east of here,lights the whole sky up at times.Reports of hail damage to cars in Hornby area,Not confirmed as true yet :-o

A bit poor from M/S not putting out a severe thunderstorm warning with hail this big being reported(only a thunder outlook) i thought this is what warning are for, to warn of danger to life and property.

aircraft circling just north of amberley waiting for it to blow over.. a great light display over chch from here - still done dry here. fire alarms going crazy in chch =D>

Yep have planes flying around rangiora too, about 6 in a row took off just before it hit too- bet they didnt want dents lol.

Just back from the hills great lightning display and loud thunder. Very regular lightning too! Massive hail!! Pelting down again with the 2nd cell but doesnt seem as active as the last one.

Impressive storm. It mostly passed to the east of here with a very brief shower of hail about 15 minutes ago. Some of it sounded big but I couldn't see the size.

A few shots I took from the house before most of the actvity was obscured by cloud.

Casualty from the storm, friend posted this on-line. Duck killed by the hail fell out of the sky and landed on their driveway!
