Holy moly, hearing that roar of the impending hail getting louder and louder was rather alarming and one of the most exciting things I have ever experienced. It was brief, but an incredibly violent pea sized hail shower. I've never experienced anything like it.

Did anyone else in Chch get that violent hail shower or was it really localised? I'm out Hornby way.

Its patchy, scattered but intense looking showers. Large CB to the south (I'm in Riccarton at present) and another nasty lookign one just flicked the city and Port Hills suburbs

Hmm, upon further reflection, well last tuesday's thunderstorm and cherry sized hail was actually pretty incredible but this was more intense for us out here.

Intense heavy hail shower passed through here same CB you other lot got, i heard the roar coming too most stones were up to pea sized quite exciting enough to even shred some small twigs/leaves off the trees.
I am surprised there was no lightning must be some decent friction up there with that hail, il post a few photos soon i took from my phone.

I was therefore on the outer edges of that hail shower when I came onto Burnham School Road, was just small hail when you guys got that hail shower out Lincoln way. Certainly was very brief cause by the time I got onto Dunns Crossing road it was all over, so I was just on the outer edges of it. Trying to find out what it's like in Methven at the moment - I guess freezing as hubby is not answering his phone (and he's out in amongst the weather)
So what's it looking like for the weekend? I read earlier somewhere that Mt Hutt could get 20cm of snow on Friday night, ummm so the question is what's it going to be like for inland canterbury since I'm in Methven again for the weekend.

Just had a massive hail/snow shower hail cracked the windscreen damn it. Some hail would be 15mm in diameter.

Looks like the chain activity is about to get started, the showers offshore south of Banks Peninnsula you can see them lining up and turning in towards the city.
Hit the play button you will see what i mean, this will be confined to Rolleston northwards like i said last night.

Some hail and sleet showers on Banks Peninsula, but no snow yet settling on hills so far. Heavy sleet/graupel (?) briefly near Kaituna/Ellesmere about 4.15-4.30pm.

Had brief hail shower here before. Radar shows these showers dying as they head north to CHCH. Looks very coastal. Banks Peninsula might get some brief snow there after dark and overnight with perhaps a light dusting on the top of the hills.
