Front seems to be getting reorganised as it leaves the tip of Cape Campbell and enters Cook Strait. Line of heavy showers developing on the rain radar, and heading towards Wellington. Metservice have just issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch.

Better go make the popcorn, and turn out the lights to watch the show!

Hopefully it comes over our way. Last time we missed out.

New camping tent got a test and a half out of that lot up in the back yard. Thunder overhead at home at 4.15 and tent passed the gales and rain with flying colours.

I just cant believe that not a drop of rain fall from that front here,the wind change was to much from WSW to have delivered much.

It looked really ominous when it was about 10kms away and then the strong wind change went over with nothing behind it.

But at the end of the day we don't get many thunder and lightning storms from SW fronts here,heat build ups in summer are more common

yes those heat build ups can be interesting, will have to plan out a chase when they accour sometime.

As you can see guys i have moved house, now bit further south to rolleston, so will be updating and watching from there, from now on.
Suppose it is a good thing as i am closer to storm territory here in Canterbury!

Yes will be basiclly even with John from west melton just bit further east really.
I have an open part to the south and west from where i am to so will be able to have a good look out.

You lucky mofo, Rolleston is an excellent starting point for storm chasing as you don't have to make your way through the goddamn Chch's traffic and its poor choices of alternative roads ! In 2 minutes you can be on your way to anywhere south of the city ...

yes well that is right Ben.
Although still have the hassel of being at work in the city witch doesnt change, and then if storms fire in the arvo i need to get through the city back down to rolly, but yes it helps living out here.
Particuly on the weekends when there could be storms or at night in summer when they might sneek up the coast i can just head out and down to rakaia.

Now you just need a DSLR or good video camera ... and a webcam + weather station combo on your roof ...
