I work with a number of High Country farmers, and there is considerable trepidation about what tomorrow may bring. Certainly looks to be a major event for them

Metservice snow Otago warning only mentions 10-15cm to 700m so it doesn't look too bad snow wise.
http://www.metservice.com/national/warn ... o-warnings.

GFS model has been showing around 50mm of rain here for the last few days.

Much higher precipitation levels for Canterbury. I often wonder why metservice only carry "snow otago" warnings, seems odd to have its own special category. Warnings now include upwards of 150mm near in to the divide with snow to 400m for Canterbury. Thats going to be a big dump in the Waimak/ Rakaia/ Rangitata Catchments and maybe the Tekapo basin.

Environment Canterbury have got a flood warning out on their website
"Additional Info: The heavy rain which is developing along the Southern Alps will cause the major alpine rivers of Canterbury to rise sharply during Friday night and Saturday morning. People are advised to keep well clear of the beds of the Rakaia, Waimakariri, Hurunui and Waiau Rivers over that period. This posting will be updated tomorrow morning (Saturday)."
Will be interesting to see how much rain we get. Was a lovely mild day outside at midday.

'tis, too.
I noted on another thread that I'd seen "mares' tails" clouds yesterday in Ashburton; and this morning here I observed high-level clouds moving most briskly up from southwest.

A bit of a pull back in rainfall and snow in the new M/S warnings for the coast and high country.

not sure you are right all they've done is remove what has fallen so far in the hills.

Pressure drop here in last 24hours is 22hpa....very close to "bomb" status now
