Poor old M.S. just cannot shake off the spectre of June 2006. There's been a bit of rain in North Otago, but no snow at all.

-25 hPa in 24 hours here at Tawa, north of Wellington.
I note that Mana, just north of here, reports -26 hPa in the 24 hours to 10:15.

Wind has been slowly easing here since 2 a.m. when it was a bit wild. 7 mm from this event so far.

Steady rain here now, not overly heavy however. Went for a drive to Rakaia earlier, hit some very heavy stuff between Dunsandel and Rakaia.

Oh whoops. Dont know why I thought it was today :S Heavy falls dont seem to be setting in around the city. Cloud layers are all different. Just few spots here at the moment. Almost all of Canterbury going by radar is getting hammered except Christchurch

Has been steady rain this morning with heavy bursts periodically, however we just had quite a large random gust blow through the trees, wonder what caused it?

Edit: sirens heard now

It doesnt surprise me if it is sleeting and i wont be surprised if theres flakes coming down later either, this is a very classic advective set up event just abit out of season and still a question of whether it could do so.
The same system brought snow to the lower hills of NSW some great photos from yesterday with a simular set up.
Between 3-10pm i reackon will be the time to be aware of.

Interesting - Dargaville (Mahuta) also had a gust of over 100kmh just before 11am, and I had a gust of 94kmh just after 11am

The rain stopped falling on N.O. an hour or so back, and the cloud level has risen quite substantially, with the odd patch of sky occasionally visible. Quite mild temperatures, as well.
