Was going to go to the Ellesmere show today at Leeston.
Seeing it was a wee bit wet, we stayed at home
Feel sorry for the exhibitors and participants.

Predicted "Bomb" system 12-14 Oct
Wasn't far off in my guess. Was 86.9 in that squall. That's our 2nd highest gist since the station went in in 2008 or so

Re: Predicted "Bomb" system 12-14 Oct
Strong southerly breeze here, trees tossing; lashing rain with smushy bits in it;
temp. down to 4.0 degrees now from around 8deg at 8am.
I was in Methven late morning; crossed North and South branches of Ashburton River which were both running fast and dirty; even the Hinds at Mayfield is filling up and discoloured.
We had had 12mm rain here to 9am.

Re: Predicted "Bomb" system 12-14 Oct
Noticably windier in Christchurch over the last half hour. Rain moderate, occassionally slightly heavier. Looks to be some very decent heavy rain from around Rolleston southwards going by the radar over the last few hours.
Smashing down at the moment, heaviest of the day by far. Looks short lived running the loop with easing from north but its certainly wet and wild at present.

Re: Predicted "Bomb" system 12-14 Oct
My spies reported sleet in Methven about 1pm, with snowflakes nearer to Highway 72.
Here, now, it's 3.5 degrees and the rain is quieter and a bit slower than before.... Flurries of white ones in with the rain now...

Re: Predicted "Bomb" system 12-14 Oct
new low center taking over now east of Kaikoura, southerly picking up fast there now
so the pressure wind has been released here (i.e the wind was increasing here as the low was blocked by the mountains)

Re: Predicted "Bomb" system 12-14 Oct
Currently only light drizzle here, not expecting anything significant for the city now for this system. Wind however is very strong, just had a huge gust a couple of mins ago. Love to know how strong that was!

Just paddled out to the rain-gauge: a further 26mm has fallen since 9am, making a total of 38mm so far for the event.
Temp. has hovered between 2.8 and 3.0 degrees for last couple of hours. Just raining at the moment, nothing interesting.
