Looks settled on the east coast of the South Island but some thunderstorms could rage on the West Coast or around the New Plymouth area? :|

With the flow W to SW Gisborne/Hawkes Bay will get the best weather.

Lol its gonna be an interesting weekend weatherwise. I can see the Antarctic is giving us one last push of freezing air towards us by the looks. How severe it will be not sure. Next few GFS runs will interesting to watch if it gets worse or peters out. Great top up for South Island ski fields.

If it stays W to SW it will be pleasant here too - today was superb, and the passing high cloud missed us till almost sunset, passed by to the north.

NW to SW as another trough/front moves across the Islands

Some heavy rain here at some stage would be good , has been a trend here for below average rainfall and a drying wind with this pattern

Have the westerlies been weaker than normal this Spring so far ? Niwa outlook suggested the Westerlies would be weaker than normal this Spring.

They have been the worst in years. This wind just doesn't stop. Gusts over 50km everyday. Has been windy for the past 4 weeks with 1 or 2 calm days each week.

It can keep on going as far as I am concerned. September was sunny - and not particularly windy here, with more W/SW and less NW/SE in the mix. While this month has been very windy at times, there have also been a number of virtually calm days with W/WSW airs. Sunshine here is also running ahead of average, and today the MTD total will match that for the whole of last October, which was a drab, damp, dismal month.

Hopefully windy tomorrow for the start of the annual Auckland to Russell yacht race, they leave the harbour under spinnaker with a west/SW. Looks like SW gusting 35 knots tomorrow.

The humid airmass moving in will make for a warm day, Auckland dewpoints will be 15-16C, temperature max 18-20C.
