Sorry for late reply, my sister had taken a photo taken from her phone, it wasnt golf ball size (slight exagerration from her). It was just slightly bigger than marble size but only just slightly. Had that brief hail shower at the Hospital today at noon too.

One of the bigger hills just South of Dunedin Airport had snow or hail visible to low levels when I came back up from Invercargill from the Catlins.

According to the console display of the rented Toyota Yaris, outside air temp at slope Point was only 1°C. Felt it too with very cold winds.

Flights down weren't that nice, strong gusty head winds slowed my flight by about 20 mins, and with only 15 mins to depart & board the Dunedin flight in Christchurch I was getting nervous. I need'nt have worried though as the flight down from Napier, which is the plane that then goes on to Dunedin was delayed over 2 hours due to cross winds at Napier which were strong enough to prevent take off!

Just judging by metuvw charts, monday arvo could be an interesting day for thunder/hail.
Looks like a cold pool of air coming up and good rigding for Canterbury?? so light winds

Shower activity lingered much longer in Canterbury than I thought it would, right up to midnight. Can see a light dusting of snow on Mt Herbert this morning.

Stopped at Knight's Point lookout on the way north from Queenstown to Fox Glacier on the 18th. Winds were probably gusting 90+kmh. I took a short clip of the conditions:
