Looks like a low thunder risk for the west of Waikato Tuesday given the time of year.
The upper air looks cold over the next few days with the chance of sea breezes from tomorrow , the air is dry.

The consensus between forecast models for an El Niño over the summer period is much weaker now than two months ago.

Looks like a very chilly stable airmass is still lingering over NZ today. 850mb -6C east coast of SI, its like Antartica! Quite exceptional to see such cold air in November.

midday 850mb chart.

Yeah cold here for November.
High of 7 degrees here yesterday and it doesn't look like it will get much warmer today with light snow down to 600 overnight and grey skies.

Temperatures this end of NZ are not too far off average , cool rather than cold.

The sub zero start in the south might have caught a few growers out, cherries are about 4 weeks from harvest.

I see Melbourne is currently 25C, dewpoint 10C at 6am.

This shower is stationary and delivering some decent rain now. Had over 5mm now. Looks the be some even better blow ups further north. Strange they finally got going after dark.

Cleared up in Chch this afternoon (tiny bit of hail about midmorning St Albans), but didn't warm up. Could be a frost tonight as already down to 3.8C at Hillmorton.

Very nice to have that rain last night given Spring has been on the dry side.

A fine start, looks like some sea breeze convergence cloud this afternoon with isolated low top showers.

Wow - only 0.4mm here yesterday and 3.4mm since midnight. Sadly not enough to put off watering the garden for the first time this season

A lot of Cumulus around now after a fine start, light winds. Likely see some showers develop again when the sea breezes start up. Currently a cool 15C.
