the last week has been above average temperature here
and so the average for the month so far is now only -0.5C colder...for me here...Ricky is -1C colder I see, but has also had above average over the last week..
the next week looks likely to be average temperatures I would say...for here...

I'm thinking thunderstorms for later this week, this of course depending on timing and the situation at hand. :-k 0_o

Left Fairlie this morning with low cloud and drizzle, 30mins later in Tekapo It was at least 10 degrees warmer with a near gale NW and very low humidity. Driving home this afternoon there was some good Cu in the hill country behind Burkes pass where the NW was hitting the Easterly.

I think you could be right sir _b , ive been watching this in the models for a few days now looks like a classic thunder/hail set up and should be good onshore coastal NE winds prior to the change too.
The only thing i can hope for is that the southerly holds off coming through North Canterbury until after 5pm when i can get away from work and chase.

I think it's unlikley you'll get as much "easterly" as in the two previous summer seasons.

The cold air tracks to the east of the country this week on the gfs.

Hopefully Auckland can catch some rain off the front overnight Wednesday. Lawns need watering!

Those maps are a joke, they show between -110 and -130 for here in rangiora and to date i think we are up to around 50mm of rain on my station for Nov and this on top of normal to to wet months before hand.
Only last week i seen standing surface paddock water out our way.

I would like to know why TV1 weather has different temps to what's on the MetService website,TV1 had 21deg for Kaikoura,MS website says 18deg :-k

MS only have the correct highs for the day on their website for about an hour then they revert back to the 'expected' highs for the day. In some cases, those temps are totally out of whack with what was showing on the site all day.

I see they're going for a new look website - maybe that business with the temps, (and the conflicting graph underneath each town/city), will improve.

Yes but MS's other site at Kaikoura Airport shows 20.5C between 3pm and 6pm (and 21.4C between 6pm and 9pm), so that would've been the one used for the TV temps.

Yes, the MetService's forecasted highs haven't been reached here so it is looking like a boring summer again like last year for Canterbury but we could get a good summer maximum high temperature reading of 25C, if we are lucky.
In December there is likelyhood of lots of hot days of 22C and in February, the day time temperature may peak at a very hot maximum of 22.7C. In January with lots of cloudy ENE days in Canterbury, the average daytime temp could peak at a very warm 19C.
With summer only a few days away, I can't wait 8)

It is rather boring sitting on a fence watching low stratus pile in from the east isnt it John   .
November has kinda been what i had expected it to be but perhaps it could have been abit warmer with a few days cracking 26C, but wasnt the case.
In terms of the thunder days 2-3 days in November is quite typical for the month more so in a ( Neautral or developing weak El Nino pattern ).
December should be on par for more potential thunder days and we see that in the models ahead already with stronger low systems coming back in again from the Tasman.
Tomorrow is abit touch and go but i do think theres a slighly bigger risk than low, maybe moderate for Ashburton up to Banks Peninnsula as even though some other ingrediants are lacking i feel the air will be cold enough to support thunderstorms for awhile.
Sunday is another day to watch for too, and next week looks interesting :-)
