The price for a good storm season in Canterbury :-) , TStorms are mostly driven by cold troughing down there.

Stream to Sydney and Melbourne as well as they are also having a poor Spring storm season  . I have hopes for the Summer storm season here. November has never been Aucklands month for weather, our most stable time of the year .

The gfs breaks some late day heat showers over the inland North Island tomorrow. Maybe an isolated thunderstorm over the ranges.

Possibly an isolated thunderstorm over the Dunedin area later tomorrow as well.

I suspect today has been the hottest day since winter with 22.8 here. Very nice day with no afternoon wind that we often get.

A high of 21 here today, with quite a bit of cloud at times. This month's highest temperature still hasn't beaten October's highest for me...

Lifted index chart for 4pm this afternoon. Afternoon LI's dip below zero over central areas. Showers and isolated thunder on the cards, more likely over higher terrain.

Should be a warm day in Auckland with 23C possible.

It seems there is a surface trough developing around the Waikato atm, SFC Pressure in Matangi and Horsham Downs down to 1010-1011 hPa while Tauranga is on 1014.
Highish Dp's around 17-15°C with a warm 22-23°C temp. Towering cumulus as Jamie mentioned is also going up.

Oh yes, its full of Cg's too!
Blitzortung picked it up very well :)

Metservice has Updated the thunderstorm outlook at 3 PM:
Chart updated at 3:10pm to upgrade risk of thunderstorms over the central North Island to moderate.

A slow moving front lies over Northland today and is expected to bring rain or showers to parts of Northland and northern Auckland. There is an elevated risk of thunderstorms over the sea to the northeast of Northland and Auckland, with a lower risk of these affecting eastern parts of Northland and the outer Hauraki Gulf (including Great Barrier Island) from this afternoon. Any convective showers or thunderstorms in these areas may be slow moving, bringing localised heavy rain of 10-25mm/hr.

Over the central North Island, daytime heating and wind convergences are expected to trigger showers over the central North Island. Some of these are likely to be heavy late afternoon and early evening, with a low risk of thunderstorms as shown on the chart. However, the risk is considered moderate for Taihape,Taupo and the Hawkes Bay ranges. These storms may produce localised rainfall rates of 10 to 25mm/hr.

Finally, a front over the Tasman Sea is forecast to move onto Fiordland tonight. This front is expected to bring a brief period of heavy rain overnight with a low risk of thunderstorms both accompanying the front and immediately behind it.

Elsewhere, no thunderstorms or severe convection expected.
