Severe Thunderstorm Warning and Watch issued:
Warning
Issued by MetService at 06:02 pm Thursday 22 November 2012.
Valid until 06:52 pm Thursday 22 November 2012.

This warning affects people in the following local government areas:
RUAPEHU and WANGANUI.

At 05:52 pm, MetService weather radar detected severe thunderstorms near
PIPIRIKI and JERUSALEM.

These severe thunderstorms are moving towards the south, and are expected to lie
near PIPIRIKI, JERUSALEM, MATAHIWI and THE WANGANUI HILL COUNTRY at 06:22 pm and
near JERUSALEM, MATAHIWI and THE WANGANUI HILL COUNTRY at 06:52 pm.

These thunderstorms are expected to be accompanied by very heavy rain.

Very heavy rain can cause surface and/or flash flooding about streams, gullies
and urban areas, and make driving conditions extremely hazardous.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in force for HAWKES BAY, TAIHAPE, TAUPO and

Watch:
Issued by MetService at 05:54 pm Thursday 22 November 2012
Valid until 10:00 pm Thursday 22 November 2012
This watch affects people in the following weather forecast districts:
Taupo
Hawkes Bay
Taihape
Wanganui

Heavy showers and thunderstorms are over the central North Island this evening, and are slow moving. There is a risk some of these thunderstorms may become SEVERE with localised downpours of 25 to 40mm/hr over southern Taupo, northern Wanganui, Taihape and the Hawkes Bay ranges for a time early this evening. Rainfall of this intensity can cause surface and/or flash flooding, especially about low-lying areas such as streams, rivers or narrow valleys, and may also lead to slips. Showers in these areas should ease tonight.

Enjoying the warmer weather here also, already 17C here.

I think the bitterly cold air in modelling east of NZ next week is something to watch, parts of NZ may well end up catching some of that.

yes, going to be warm again
was 1.5C warmer than normal here for the 24 hours for the day yesterday than normal
which is negating the colder days earlier in the month
the sea breeze only made it onto the coastline here yesterday, real late too, at around 6pm

Lighter flow today so seabreeze convergence is more likely , isolated afternoon showers under the sea breeze line.
Currently fine here, 20C, dewpoint 13C

Looking like eastern places (Gisborne/Napier) will be the best spot for thunder today. But some cb's also developing further inland toward BOP.

Some Cumulus developed here around 10am although reasonably weak went up fairly fast with a few light showers around midday at work, i see one of the showers may have been a brief thunderstorm up near Waikari North Canterbury going by the hourly radars.
Not bad for a weak front really might be catching some of that cold unstable air Australia has been having.
Next week could be interesting with a few fronts here and there.

I like the bath out in the middle of the paddock. An unusual feature for a thunderstorm photo _b :D
