Upper air warms up today, should be dry for the Coldplay concert at Mt Smart stadium tomorrow night, an outdoor venue.

Cumulus off the heated land, the afternoon shower weather comes to an end today.David wrote:Fairly predictable weather here the last few days... starts off sunny then all the clouds roll in from about 9am...
It would be interesting to know how many Ak sunshine hrs are lost due to sea breeze convergence. I think this will vary across the suburbs

Re: General November Weather
Quite a good set up for thunderstorms and hail in Canterbury tomorrow afternoon/evening, might warrent a new topic .
Its been in the models for a few days now and with good heating and onshore coastal winds prior should make for a good chase.
Slower storm motions too so maybe up to 20mm hail, cloud cover shouldnt be an issue north of Ashburton so maybe even a higher risk within this area.

Just back from a ride to Kaikoura via the inland route and back down the coast. Mostly fine although pockets of cold air along the coast forming sea fog and areas of warm gusty northwest slightly inland.

Re: General November Weather
Looks like the upper trough will be slow moving over NZ for the next 3 days.
Should see a few thunderstorms pop up over Waitomo/Taupo regions later in the day Monday with that colder upper air.
Hopefully Tuesday can produce some convection closer to Auckland!

Yes, looks like the thunder /hail risk over Otago/Canterbury today will be onto the NI Tuesday ( providing the models don't change ) perhaps even later tomorrow some storms central NI/Waitomo.
Dry here so far today, rain on radar to the west.

Re: General November Weather
GFS is plotting 40mm or so for CHCH over next 5 hours Shows this on their 3 day models too and under Marshlands on Christchurch (rural page) and under CHCH city computer generated forecast. Ofcourse its only an indicator but i suppose that area just out to sea to the NE of CHCH that is a red blob has stooled there for a while.

Re: General November Weather
Congrats Jamie! You certainly got the weather right.
This high cloud over us is associated with the jet stream and will be slow to clear by the looks. It could interfere with potential instability over the Waikato tomorrow. Looks like there will be a thundery convergence line developing in the Waikato Tuesday afternoon.

Congratulations Jamie
The only weather my wife will chase is sunshine.
Not much sunshine here today, can see blue skies sitting out west.

Re: General November Weather
Well should be an interesting weather day hopefully,i'm close to where the MS have a low risk of thunderstorms,i like these kinda set ups because when these build ups happen you know you can drive close to them with out them moving away before you get there.
