Storm potential for Canterbury 11/11/2012

Unread post by Richard »

Its certainly looking promising for storm development today but also that its fallen on a Sunday and that a few of you guys wont be stuck at work.
Now looking forward to the MS eight o'clock risk warning update to see if things have changed from last night,i feel that looking outside this morning the signs are that the area could be extended north more from last nights chart, the NW wind has died which is good.

Overcast here with 12c temp/10c dewpoint. So the moisture is there just need this thick middle level cloud to clear so we can get some heating.

Yeah can't see any risk coming out of this sky, just precipitation. Thick cloud cover and little heating here in ChCh at this stage

It has gone SW but that could be a good thing as its not meant to be here until way later on.
The SW will boot that NW out nd shud sneak a NE later.
Just need this cloud to clear abit

An onshore SE flow will converge with the inland NW.

Clearance to the south now with developing CU winds currently light to nothing really, MS also upgraded to high risk over south canterbury/north otago.
Rain radar picks up some heavy activity already down that way, could be all on for a chase i think.
Edit: to add a thunderstorm is currently under way down south on the trackers :D

That clearance is tremendously slow moving as it's been like that all morning, like a WSW Arch over the TC area.

17.3 degrees here at present; sunny.
Quite a bit of low cloud drifting in from the east, beneath high cloud coming over from the west.
Just observed a hawk gliding in slow circles very high, so something must have been keeping him aloft.

Looks like a good CB in the distance to the south of here now. If it comes any closer ill go for a drive and have a look.

Plenty of sunshine and heating here now along with a nice easterly breeze.

Edit- Just went for a quick walk down the street and took a couple of photos.
