Merry Christmas all
Wishing I was back in Invercargill, looks like the best Christmas Day weather they've had for a long long time.

Up to high 20s near Akaroa this afternoon, with sunshine clearing away the cloud.

Re: General December Weather
Remaining overcast still here with that low cloud only faint periods of sunshine and 20C, some very light mist earlier on and 80% humidity.
I can see that area of showers and or thunderstorms through the Nelson Lakes down to the North Canterbury high country, a definate movement southwards so could be an evening shower or two down this way which would clear away this clag.

So hot in Tawa, sitting on 30˚C. Really praying for a thunder storm to cool things down.

Re: General December Weather
Yes, there looks like some substantial stuff moving into northern Pegasus Bay.
There was a weak anvilish higher cloud there around 7pm, now drifting away to the SE.

Two anvils out to sea off Porirua right now, not sure what direction they're heading in. I've got a photo but it's stuck on my phone.

Re: General December Weather
Over night low of 17deg and this morning i see my area as a low risk of thunder which will be unusual as thunder at this time of day is rare, but even now at 7.00am the clouds do look like something could form.

First time this summer the overnight temp didn't drop below 20c here.. wee bit of light drizzle now after that cracker of a christmas day here yesterday.. readings showed up around 24/25 but I can tell you it was a LOT warmer than that! Hope everyone pulled up well this morning

Re: General December Weather
I'm surprised no one took a shot of the stormish cloud coming from the north yesterday arvo ? Were you all drinking, eating or digesting at that stage ?

Re: General December Weather
Maybe a late day storm over the Waikato tomorrow 27th.
850mb temps will still be high 14C.
dewpoint 18C-20C,
the upper levels starting to cool off a little bit (still warm though unfortunately),
and light winds for sea breeze convergence.

Re: General December Weather
No rain measured here in Hoonhay where I live these days with a few spots on the ground but the ground not really wet. However, been to parents in Halswell and they have gutters flowing and 5mm recorded. Radar would suggest that the very south of CHCH has been getting hit by the band moving west to east to the south of the city.

Merry Christmas Everyone!
Happy to say I heard thunder on Christmas day, was just north of Amberly in the afternoon, when a shower with small hail came thru accompanied with a couple rolls of thunder!I'm surprised no one took a shot of the stormish cloud coming from the north yesterday arvo ? Were you all drinking, eating or digesting at that stage ?

Re: General December Weather
Looking at the models I see tropical air this week, polar air next week.
Plan to be moving around NZ next couple of weeks, looks like mixed weather ahead. Happy holidays everyone.
